METALLICA - SOME KIND OF MONSTER...

mods PLEASE PLEASE don't move this pray...

I went and saw this last night at the movies (it's only just been released here in Australia) and I have to say it was SUCH a refreshing light to see the boys in! it was the real them "warts and all" and it was SO COOL! it wasn't boring or overly long at all...even for non-Metallica fans it's a breath of fresh air into the music industry to see a band of such calibre and history as Metallica having the balls to be themselves...yet another reason they're one of my all time fave bands

I saw the movie, and though it was nice to see the "warts and all" approach, it made me lose respect for them. Jason Newsted said it himself that it was awful sad that they could not handle their problems like "brothers", and had to get outside involvement. Also, what they did to Dave Mustaine was atrocious & unfair. (Look to MTV news for Dave's side, I don't have a link)
If I want your opinion, I'll beat it outta ya!

Warts N' All...that's my boys love me some Talicca anyday. Can't wait to see it next week hon'. As for comments made and Dave Mustaine there are always two sides to every story, he should stick to Megadeth and leave the bitching alone. The only one currently whining is Dave because he thinks the band owes him. He should leave history alone, nothing can change that. Besides I don't believe everything I read. I don't have to because I know this BS exists - Believing is conceding that you don't really know. So ask yourself.....do you know what you believe in?

Jason Newsted was my fav whilst in the band but he has had his differences with the boys and moved on, sole choice of his own besides he is almost deaf from all the live performances.

Thanks for posting Tisse, U rock babes glad U enjoyed the boyson screen. Love U heaps....

Yeah I thought this was pretty good, but a $10,000 a month therapist I thought was just a little sickening and rock-star-ish. It did however make me appreciate other aspects of the band a little more, namely seeing the songwriting process behind their music...they didn't seem to be a bunch of neanderthals afterall.

I've been a die-hard Metallica fan since '89, so I thought I knew every detail of the band. I was wrong. Some Kind of Monster is a glimpse behind a band that's lucky to exist given the road they were on.

This film simply blew me away. I pride myself on knowing as much useless Metallica trivia as possible, but this glimpse was unique. A $30,000 a month therapist (yes, really) tries to get grown men that never learned to connect with each other to open up. Metallica in therapy. Most people aren't sure what to think-I loved it.

One thing I've always liked about them is how they're willing to show their good and bad sides. If you've never seen A Year and a Half in the Life of Metallica Parts 1 and 2, you get an idea of how things operate behind the scenes. A Year and a Half is circa the making of the Black album, and then part 2 is the tour after.

It's a lighter glimpse than SKOM, but both are relevant in how it shows you the story gets there. These guys have been through hard lives, other than the obvious monetary success-they've drank hard, traveled hard and been through extremes like you can't imagine.

James Hetfield was burned by a pyro accident in '92, and was probably the main reason Metallica had the nickname Alcoholica in their earlier days. The point you see in SKOM is a man on the glimpse of rebirth. Not religiously, but a rebirth of self. Old ways die hard, and he has to hit the wall before the work begins.

This is the main reason I love this movie-James is the reason I picked up the guitar in the first place at all-yes, Prince added elements to my love for music and made me want to approach things in a wider creative mindset, but James is the guy that is my musical idol.

James is also human by the way, which most people forget given the fact he's in one of the most popular bands of all time. SKOM is Metallica at probably their most human-warts and all. James relearns how to live with himself, and learns how to exist outside of Metallica, Lars is still, well, Lars the motormouth Danish drummer with a love of high society, and Kirk is still Quirk Hammett, a Zen-like lead guitarist.

If you've struggled with anything in your life, you can relate to this film. Personally, I learned exactly why I look up to James like I do, and beyond the obvious "he's the guy in Metallica" thing. Sure, they have huge bank accounts and don't have to worry about most things, but they still struggle, and if you're a voyeur that wants to see how a band makes an album or just wonders what Metallica in therapy might be like it's worth a look.

Also for myself seeing the movie made me appreciate St. Anger more, since you know the story. It's not their best album, but it gets a worse reputation than it should. It's easy to say it's not *insert favorite Metallica album here*, but after seeing SKOM, there's another level of at least understanding where the guys were coming from.

The Mustaine thing I agree with in part, but Dave's been caught up in comparing himself to Metallica ever since he was fired. I love how he said he would've loved to have the opportunity to go to AA if given the chance, but it does kinda show you how Lars just isn't sure how to understand how what he did years ago affected Dave quite so much.

Again, this is the guys in Metallica, not a 2 hour and a half ad for St. Anger.

Hope people do themselves a favor and check it out and learn something (everybody in the movie is identified by a subtitle for people not quite as into them).

I've seen it twice (each time with someone that knew of Metallica more than really was a fan), and even the people I brought with me went away with a new respect for Metallica, and enjoyed themselves a lot.

cool

I don't like the music of Metallica at all, but it would be quite interesting to see this flick. Does it have any unintentionalcomedy in it as well?
