I thought they were cool, but with homegirl from EnVogue. SynthiaRose said "I'm in love with blackguitaristz. Especially when he talks about Hendrix."

I remember really anticipating this cd before itw as released. It is a solid effort.I still feel that they played it a little safe.I know Dawn enjoys rock music and Ali is a student of music.Raphael is as talented as they come, but I thought they should have pushed the envelope more. I wished they had stayed together because I think they were heading soemwhere really cool. "I'm a pig..so,magic elixir I swill"

Dawn Robinson was the shit to me, I liked the group with her. Personally, I would love to write some funkadelic type shit for her. She was always my fave in EnVogue. She would look so great fronting a funk/rock outfit doing some P-Funkadelic type material. She could handle it. Not none of this soft watered down shit that people are always putting out. I personally wished they has stayed together longer. I love Dawn and I thought she sounded great in the group. But I think Joi was a better fit. Dawn really seemed to be too much of a "diva" to be included. I really hate that they never got to record a second album with Joi's vocals because during the live shows, she tore shit up.

I slept on em personally. Their singles didn't really seize my attention. Respectively, I am a fan of each of their former groups though.

I want to know, what are your thoughts on Lucy Pearl?
I loved them I got to see them preform live opening for D Angelo. Do you miss them? Did you think it was a worthwile venture for the four involved? Yes, I do miss them but I had a feeling they would break up soon. Do you think they were successful in what they were trying to do musically and album wise? Not really I only know they had two hits from movie soundtracks. Was Lucy Pearl better with or without Ex-En Voguer Dawn Robinson? I got to meet Dawn this was before she was in Lucy Pearl. I got autograph from her. She was kind when I met her. I don't know much about the other girl that replaced her to appear on the Save The Last Dance soundtrack. Who was your favorite member of Lucy Pearl? Fave song(s)? I think it's called I want to dance to night.

Lucy Pearl were good for what they were. But they definitely peaked in 2000 and that was it. Do you miss them? Did you think it was a worthwile venture for the four involved? No, because Raphael Saadiq (who I think was the creative braintrust of the entire group) moved on and is still churning out great material (his production on Kelis' Glow, Attention and Marathon come to mind). It was worthwhile for Raphael, still don't know how it fared for Joi, Dawn or Ali Shaheed Muhammad. Do you think they were successful in what they were trying to do musically and album wise? Sales wise, not really. But musically, they did put out some good jams in 2000 (namely "Dance Tonight"). That song will be their legacy. It will be with us when people do noughties retrospectives. Was Lucy Pearl better with or without Ex-En Voguer Dawn Robinson? To keep it real, I didn't really follow the material with replacement singer Joi. I did like that track from the Save The Last Dance SDTK called "You (feat. Snoop & Q-Tip)." But, the magic of Lucy Pearl was better with Dawn because it lived up to the hype surrounding the group -- a Neo-Soul/R&B/Hip Hop collective of three distinct artists from three popular '90s urban music acts. I think that was Lucy Pearl's main intention. It would suck with one of the originals absent and that turned out to be true. Who was your favorite member of Lucy Pearl? Fave song(s)? Raphael because his production is emblazoned all over their tracks. Song: "Dance Tonight," definitely. But, I also gotta give it up for "Don't Mess With My Man," "Hollywood" and "LaLa." "sure hope that you're not tooken," edit. [Edited 9/27/04 22:09pm]

I want to know, what are your thoughts on Lucy Pearl? I thought the group was a good idea, but I like the original blueprint of having D'Angelo and ?uestlove in the group. The album was cool and they were even more incredible live. Overall, I would say it was good for what it was worth.
Do you miss them? Not really. Did you think it was a worthwile venture for the four involved? Who was the fourth one involved? Do you think they were successful in what they were trying to do musically and album wise? Yeah...they got some airplay which is good considering that Raphael Saadiq is one of the most underrated artists out there. Was Lucy Pearl better with or without Ex-En Voguer Dawn Robinson? I love Joi, but the group was better with Dawn (I always go for the original lineup in groups ). Who was your favorite member of Lucy Pearl? Ray. Fave song(s)? "Trippin,'" "Dance Tonight," "Can't Stand Your Mother," "Without You," "Do It For The People" and "You"

Lucy Pearl had four characters in its short history. The original three members were: Raphael Saadiq of Toni! Tony! Tone! Dawn Robinson of En Vogue Ali Shaheed Muhammad of A Tribe Called Quest Dawn's replacement was Joi.

I think it was worthwhile for Dawn (especially coming off the success of En Vogue) and Ray, but Ali didn't gain anything from it and neither did Joi. People still don't know who she is, but in her defense that was probably because they decided to call it quits shortly after she came into the picture.
