GangstaFam said: Kiss Me was the album that got my attention and Disintegration was the one that made me a fan. Still probably their best album, although probably not my very favorite. Every song on there is a keeper.
That is how I got into them. I bought Kiss Me BLIND, just cuz A) I had read good things about it and B) they were right in front of Culture Club at the wreka stow. I thought they were heavy metal when I heard the Kiss (first song I had heard from them ever). Though I had no idea what Heavy Metal was. I think I turned it off almost immediately. And then played it againm and got more into it. Once I got into it...they had already come and gone tour wise. Kiss me is my favorite by far. Like Cockatoos is my favorite song and I can probably sing it on the spot if asked ....and her face pressed tight and all around the night sang out like cockatoos [Edited 9/22/04 15:56pm] Christian Zombie Vampires

Uhm? What is? Disintegration probably has the strongest set of songs, but I like how Seventeen Seconds sounds the best. Are you Gooey?

superspaceboy said: GangstaFam said: Huh? How so? Just cuz they're basically their 2 biggest hits? They have nothing in common musically. No I think they sound similar. One is more happy and the other is more somber. But when ever I hear that song (Lovesong) I am reminded of Just like heaven. It certainly is the "hit" on the record. To me, "Just Like Heaven" seems to be an extension of their perfect pop singles that came before and after it like "Inbetween Days" and "High". I always thought of "Pictures Of You" being the "Just Like Heaven" of that album.

I always thought of "Pictures Of You" being the "Just Like Heaven" of that album. Pictures of you was another one...actually my least favorite (I still like it). I liken Pictures of you to Close to me... The song POY created a beat that either became popular or borrowed a newer beat that was going around during that time (sorta the same way housequake...borrowed yet gave a sound to house music). They practically used the same beat on Close to me (closer mix) from Mixed up. At least to my ears that's how I hear them and connect them that way. I do the same with the 13th and Caterpilliar. Perfect for sexy thunderstorms, indeed. Perfect for breaking up and getting it all out as well. Perfect when you wanna crawl into a hole and stay there for a day or so. Perfect. |

if you don't have or don't know about, there is a great cure dvd called trilogy. in berlin, they played 3 albums all the way through, pornography, disintegration, and bloodflowers. i had made a cd rip from the dvd of the disintegration set, and was listening to it last night. great performance and cool to hear the entire album played not just "the hits".
the disintegration tour was the first time i had seen them live, and so it definitely holds a special place in my heart. it's a very lush, fluid, emotionally charged set. when i was listening to it lst night, i was thinking how no one sounds like them (or at least up to the point when they created their sound-many have copied since). but, for me the greatest cure album is the head on the door. when people talk about 80's music, i don't think flock of seagulls, i think that album (aming others) ------------------------------------------------

I know I was impressed with DIsintegration...though it was a dead on play of those songs. Very impressed with Pornography segment. I had forgotten how good those songs were...and done well live. I think I skipped the Bloodflowers though...I still have yet to really hear it all the way through. I left that for the BF. Christian Zombie Vampires

My favorite Cure album of all time. So dark, so sinister, so haunting, and yet so melodic, and beautiful at the same time. "Well it's opening time, down on Fascination St....." NEW WAVE FOREVER: SLAVE TO THE WAVE FROM THE CRADLE TO THE GRAVE.

I don't think the opening strains of any other album has ever felt so much like home to me. Plainsong made me cry when I saw it live. |

I remeber the day it came out. I skipped class with my friend and we drove out and got it. The guy at the store "warned us" that Fascination st was the fastest song on there and that it was a bit of a snoozer (did a nod of the head as if he was falling asleep). We got int he car and played it and liked it a bit...but it needed to grow. Didn't take too long..
I think it was then I determined slow is not necessarily bad. I think it was the slowest album I owned at the time. Christian Zombie Vampires

I think it was then I determined slow is not necessarily bad. I think it was the slowest album I owned at the time. I had a weird way of getting into that album too. In '87, I went to middle school. It was a total eye opener musically. All these kids were wearing Cure, Depeche Mode, New Order and Smiths shirts. I had no idea what it meant. But I started hearing their music at school dances and fell in love with "Just Like Heaven". But it wasn't until "Fascination Street" came out that obsession took over. I had no job and no money at the time and it was killing me. My parents were quite conservative at the time and would've never just bought it for me themselves. I pestered a friend of mine who actually did have a convenience store job every single day about how great this album was and how he had to have it. Finally he gave in and made me a copy. He thought it was alright, but didn't take it very far. I, on the other hand was hooked for life. And that was the beginning of what became a long musical journey that I'm still exploring to this day. The Cure and Prince were my firsts and very sacred because of it. You can never recapture the feeling of your first musical loves.
