You gotta be kidding.El,James Ingram and Barry White are the only real singers on that song.I liked Al's first album, but I gotta admit,he wasn't really much of a singer. It was mostly "studio tricks" that made him sound as good as he did.

As much as I admired Al back in '88, I gotta agree. Dude had very little vocal chops.

His live performances leave much to be desired. And I had the misfortune to hear him do "Noche y Dia," the spanish version of "Night and Day" live. It was NOT one of the highlights of my concert going career. Though, I did think he was cute.

I remember him from back in the day and the few times I saw him live on TV, he didn't sound good. If memory serves me, it looked like he was trying to hard to be soulful. I had his first album and it was ok at best.
I'm not a fan of "old Prince". I'm not a fan of "new Prince". I'm just a fan of Prince. Simple as that

Never really cared much for his music, but I liked his collaboration with David Bowie. Weird combination, but it was alright.

i'll be the first to shamefully admit that i still listen to ABS...his Sexy Verses cd had some serious love making music on there..not to mention that duet he did with Diana Ross "No Matter What You Do"...kinda a poor man's Scandalous Sex Suite. Of ourse he can't sing live...85% of singers can't, but he oozes sexuality in his songs...Christopher Williams was kind of boxed into that same corner, (pretty boy), at least he could cary a tune live

I have no shame, "In Effect Mode" was THE TAPE back in the day, and I still break it out now and then. dancing jig I always want to pluck that unibrow for him, though.

"like al b sure I'm in effect mode/usedta' have a crush on dawn from en vogue/it's not that honey dip would ever git wit me/but,just in case,i got more condoms than tlc" I actually think al did a good job on his first 2 cd's.No,he's not the greatest singer, but it worked. Now,his live singing is ridiculously bad.I thought he would be around a long time as a producer.

Didn't u think he used simular backing vocals to Michael Jackson? Listen to "see the lady" off his 3ed album "sexy vs" or "misunderstanding" off his second album.....both r solid uptempo NewJack cuts!

Because I liked his first album so much,I went out and bought his second CD 'Private Times...And the Whole 9' in 1991 and boy was I disappointed! That album was an overproduced mess, with a bunch of predictable "let-me-love-you-all-night-long" ballads and lame New Jack Swing uptempto tracks. There wasn't one song on there that was as catchy and charming as his first hit "Nite And Day".And he had the nerve to open the album with a whack ass remake of the Eagles' classic "Hotel California",which is just unforgivable.I eventually took the CD to a used record store and sold it.

I still have his 3 cd's, and "MISUNDERSTANDING" is a uptempo song that I just quoted as being a song I liked.....I know what u mean about the ballads though! And "hotel...." remake is crap.....Ilove that overproduced sound though.....brings back meories and the backing vocals on his uptempo's remind me alot of Jacko's!

He wrote some great stuff 4 Tevin Campbell's first album ("T.E.V.I.N") like "goodbye" and I think "confused" aswell.....of course, Tevin's voice is far supeiror to Al's and Tevin sounds emotional and real on all his tracks (like Mike).....anyway.....
