Heavy D and the boyz!

As few remember the golden age of music (New Jack swing era), I just the other day, dug up my Heavy D records (I dont have "blue funk" though, but I do want to find it!)

Heavy D was like Hammer on a positive tip, but got way more respect then Hammer 'cause he seemed more legit with good lyrics and a literally huge presense perfect 4 MTV!

"We got our own thang" (7"/video version)
"girlz they love me"
"Now that we found love"
"Peaceful journey"
"Let it rain"
"Somebody 4 me"
"Is it good to u"
"body and mind"

He made good video's (fav being "we got our own thang"), put on good shows and his attitude was so great to me! When he guests on other peopes records, he is definately a highlight of that track!

Janet Jackson "alright" "me as thick as a milkshate, as fit as a cornflake, I love u to death but...."

Guy "Do me right".....well its caller no.1, whats the mattter don't ya recognise my voice honey bun....2
Jacko "Jam"

I miss Heavy D, good to c him in serious film "cider house rules" and that Eddie Murphy/Matin lawrence film "life"!

"Do Me Right"....let me just add in...."Oh I understand, you were half sleep, but wait a minute, who's beeper just beeped. I know it ain't mine, mine's on my hip" and when you wake up in the middle of the night, I'll be with her, cause she, she'll do me right".....I loveeeee that ryhme one of the best. I miss Heavy D.
Remember he did the into to LeVert's "Cooling....
I believe one of his dancers died in an accident of some sort. That's why the title of that one album was Peaceful Journey...and he had a track going something like "You're on my mind, and I wish you a peaceful journey, brotha I hope you hear me"

It was Trouble T-Roy (hope I got that right). Thing is, I've heard different versions of how he died. I thought it happened when a dance stunt went wrong. Then I read he fell off a balcony. Then I heard he died in a car accident. One thing I know for certain it that Pete Rock's and CL Smooth's "They Reminisce Over You (TROY)" was dedicated to him.

Trouble-T-Roy died when he fell from a balcony at the Indianapolis Black Expo some years back. I was there and Heavy-D was scheduled to perform. I loved positive rap such as his, just ordered their greatest hits cd.

I wouldn't compare Heav to Hammer at all. Man, I loved Heavy D and the Boyz! Don't forget "More Bounce" - that was the MFin JAM in my neighborhood.

This was when I was so in love with hip-hop...so many great artists with something to say and on-point producers behind them...Queen Latifah...the whole Native Tongues family....

Ah, memories.

I've always really liked "Don't You Know" w/ Al B. sure. Gotta say it's my favorite for sentimental reasons. touched

I was in 8th grade when Mr Big Stuff came out and I loved it. Loved it more than anything else Heavy has put out since. I think KDWB just stopped playing that terrible Now That We Found Love crap about six months ago. Radio in Mpls is really with it! thumbs up!

Ooh, I remember the video to that song too. They were in an executive conference room with a big round wooden table and all the Uptown rappers got up one by one and rapped. I wish I could see that video again.

Heavy D was always great in my book. He was always about positivity without it being über-corny. I still remember his single "Don't Curse." My favorite album by HD&TB was "Peaceful Journey." Lots of jams on there.

I stopped following his music after the "Waterbed Hev" LP though LOL!!!

But he did put it down on that song he produced for Jay-Z's album featuring Lenny Kravitz.

Hey good point, used to have an album with him and Howie tee.....maybe I should find it again!

Plus Chubb guested on Al b sure!'s "Channel j" (which was covered on Al's next album too)
and Tevin Campbell's "just ask me to", when he just appears in Tevins video, it makes me laugh as whole video had just Tevin and other kids running about and then some big fat guy just enters.....good contrast!

Chubb to al bsure!:-" .....u flip in a tape, u barely escape....." love those lines.....same with his guest appearance on "just ask me to"!
