P-Funk All Stars "Dope Dogs" album

The opening song "Dog Star" (Fly On) is kicking my ass. headbang I'm not a huge fan of the rest of the album, but it's worth listening to just for this song alone. drool

THE GUITAR SOLO AFTER SOLO by Dewayne "Blackbyrd" McKnight I believe, just blows my mind. drooling

Ok, so anyone else loving this one as well?

I have to listen to it again now, after the tenth time today. lol

From the scan, it looks like this is the later version of the album. Was released on a different label to the original and some of the tracks were changed.

The original album was better and included "Lost Dog" with Primal Screams Bobby G and Denise Johnson.

But some of the different mixes on the later version are a nice change.

Nope sorry wrong there !

Dope Dogs came first, in the UK anyway.

The later Dope Dogs album may have been released after.

That's funny, you're right! I could have sworn it was the other way around..... I was living in Germany around that time and I believe there 'Dope Dogs' came after!

Depends which version you are thinking of. The first one came out round about 94 / 95, and I think the new version came out round about 96 with the changed track list.

Some Next Shit (or whatever its called) is pretty good aswell.

Yeah, Blackbyrd is a hellava player. Very underrated. U should check him out when he was with Herbie Hancock Headhunters. He was smoking then as well. He even did a few live dates with the Chilli Peppers. But ywah, this cd is coldblooded. But anything that George does that features rock elements is going to be slamming.

He was actually a member for a lil bit, then he got into it with one of the band members. Actually there were supposedly 2 guitar players at that time, I think the other was Spacey T.

Yeah, like I said in my original post, I'm not really feeling the rest of the album. It's strange, because you hear the first track and expect to get more along those lines, and then it just sort of goes in a different direction. I mean, I just wish it was more rock/guitar heavy like "Dog Star".

I've had this cd since 1994. That is the original copy above. It was released like 3 years later in the US. My copy came from Japan. The later version is credit to The P-Funk All Stars.

The lp is the closest thing to modern day Parliament. "Some Next Shit "is my cut. Just Say Ding....lots of good tracks here.

Hmm you are right there about it being the first version actually, I got put off by the green edging, dont have that on my copy... though it says ((c)1995) on mine. The second one I got is creditted to George Clinton and P-Funk Allstars and that is dated 1998 !

BTW Also think "All sons of bitches" is a smokin track.
