Why would Madonna call her 1990 collection, "Immaculate"? Till this day, I'm still trying 2 figure out why would Madonna's 1990 greatest hits collection, "The Immaculate Collection" be called "Immaculate"? Is it because it's clean or something? Oh yeah, did I forget to mention that the collection rocks. I played that cd from beginning to end. Talk about your experiences listening 2 it. The one problem I had with it though is that some of the songs were edited. Other than that, it is one collection that is definitely worth listening to again and again. Why would she call it "Immaculate", though? That's strange. Check me out and add me on:

I always thought it was a play on words, because it sounded so close to Immaculate Conception.
It's a must have, for Justify My Love and Rescue Me.

I think everyone feels the same thing you do about this album. Not only the edits but also the remixes. That Shep Pettibone version of "Into the Groove" is brutal compared to the inspired synths of the original. The "Like A Prayer" and "Express yourself" aren't that bad but I'm sure most people would have preferred the original LAP. Also, the tracklisting leaves a lot to be desired but I think that's just Madonna's way of saying "These are the songs I want you to remember me by.". It certainty works as "Who's That Girl", "True Blue" and "Caisson' A Commotion", while massive hits, aren't considered as important or defenying as the songs on TIC.

Because the Virgin Mary (The Madonna) is called the Immaculate Conception. Hence the name "Immaculate Collection." Play on words. S [Edited 9/21/04 7:29am] Filthy cute and baby U know it

A little trivia about this album...
This collection of hits includes two studio recordings :"Justify My Love" and "Rescue Me".But there was another new song recorded for this set. It's called "Get Over" and it co-produced with Stephen Bray. That song was left off the album.

I never liked "Rescue Me" becuase I thought Madonna's voice in the chorus sounded a little bit "Granny-ish" but the CD itself (minus CRAZY FOR YOU Being cut at the end and ITG remix I never liked) is fab...I love to bring it to the gym with me. "Immaculate Conception" refers not to Jesus' immaculate conception, but Mary's. The Catholics believe that Mary was born without sin, hence she was righteous enough to bear the Son of God in her womb.
Protestants believe that she was just a regular, flawed person like anyone else. To me, this seems like a better story, like God can do great things with anyone. In the Bible, God used a drunk (Noah) to save the human race, and converted a murderer (Saul/Paul), who ended up writing most of the New Testament. Point being, it's not too late for anyone. Or like Led Zep put it, "Yes, there are two paths you can go by/but in the long run/there's still time to change the road you're on." Which we see to be true, as even Madonna can get some sort of religion. When the sunlight strikes raindrops in the air, they act as a prism and form a rainbow. The rainbow is a division of white light into many beautiful colors. Regardless of the day, I'm glad you were born.

It gave Like a prayer the oomph it needed and I hate the express yourself original with the horns. The "Into the groove" I would have prefered the original...but there was a reason to put the remix out there. It is a play on the Immaculate Conception. I do wish it had been more comprehensive and included the other singles...but then she did that with the last one (I didn't get it). It's time for a comprehensive box set of the album singles/remixes/ and one offs as well as a DVD giving us ALL of the videos (including the yanked American Life). Christian Zombie Vampires

Shouldve taken "rescue Me" off and put "Dress U Up"
Otherwise a fantastic collection (other than the dance mix of "LAP" which is OK, but i perferred the original). Straight Jacket Funk Affair

This was the cd that got me hooked on Maddy. The remixes arent bad, and they had to be watered down and mixed differently to make space for 15 tracks PLUS 2 bonus tracks.
Unlike GHV2 she just leaves 15 tracks and nothing new

Oh and the Immaculate Collection sold 22 million copies worldwide!

Wasn't there a catchy title originally for GHV2 like this? Something funny and semi-blasphemous?

IMO "The Immaculate Collection" is the best title given to a greatest hits package. It's great cause the artist is Madonna. When i heard "GHV2" as the title of the new compilation i was like "wtf is wrong with you girl"

Still trying to get over that design that bordered the album title on the cover of the album. Check me out and add me on:

"Rescue Me" is a very weak song and it should have remained in the vaults.

The remix of like a prayer that appears on this collection is edited from the original 12 inch mix, which is over 8 minutes long. I like the edited version better, even if the final chorus comes in a little sloppily.
The remix of into the groove on this collection is fucking pointless. It's a highly edited version of the remix that appears on her "you can dance" collection. Opposite to the like a prayer 12 inch, the original remix of into the groove is over 8 minutes long, and essential. There's a killer, a KILLER piano solo in the middle that goes on forever, and just owns. I don't have a problem if a hits collection includes 7" or radio edits/fades, but the problem I and a lot of people have with some of this collection is it fades a lot of songs early, where even on the radio singles, they were longer. "crazy for you" and "borderline" are just two examples of this butchering. Keep your headphones on.
