I love Janet Jackson. But As DavidEye has made clear..Janet = no growth. With the exception of "The Velvet Rope" & parts of "RN1814"; her albums are all the same. Even her image has been stagnant in the last few years. Looking like Britney in every video. Still love the girl and will buy her albums. But in this case..there's clearly only 1 winner.

Madonna by a country mile. Janet used to be a close second, until she put out the same album 4 times in a row. Even putting out the same album 4 times in a row would be fine, but it's like when you use a photocopier to make a copy of a copy of a copy of a copy.... the quality ends up lacking and it gets harder and harder to see what made it worth copying in the first place.

I've been to see Janet twice on tour and she is great to watch. She's lost me since Damita Jo - mainly because I am starting to grow tired of her sound. She hasn't evolved in any way over the years. Her early stuff is great but there's no progression.

Madonna on the other hand, I have idolised for twenty years. She has constantly inspired, surprised and excited me. She's always moving but still keeps up that drive for perfection.

Also Madonna kick's JJ's ass on tour.

janet damita jo jackson. i can't believe there is even a question about this. exlcuding madonna's most recent tour, none of her shows have come close to the spectacle that jj puts on! janet's music is so much more fun and she doesn't take herself so damned seriously. madonna is great but she is NO janet jackson.

for Janet...what is this about an artist not evolving enough! who cares, Janet has tried different avenues other than the just dance and have a good time, Rhythm Nation is the perfect example. I loved Madonna, but I'm sorry to me, she didn't evolve, she just got crazier and crazier, incorporating whatever she believed in at the time into her music, that's where she eventually lost me. One thing about Janet is she's consistent. And Janet will never sell more albums than Madonna or have more #1's than Madonna, but it's not a numbers game to me. It's a matter of who I'd rather see perform, Janet...getting my favorite dance jams and some slow jams or Madonna...depending on what her current regilous belief is....a performance based on politics and religion. Janet for me, you can keep Madonna!!!
