BlackMiles, Psyko would you guys happen to have his version of Curtis's "The Makings Of You"? confuse

omg Don't have that one, but I'll definitely be on the look out now. Do you know when it was recorded?

If memory serves me right, it seems like D performed it shortly after his Jazz Cafe recording. I remember hearing it from back in the day, but I'm trying to figure out where exactly it was. confuse

I bought his remake of Prince's "She's always in my hair". It was a promo. Not sure if it is a rare track...I don't own any of his music.

He used to perform "The Makings Of You" live on his first tour, 95-96. I remember hearing him play it live at the Bayou, in DC: Just D, accompanying himself on Fender Rhodes...

Right!
That's when he used to do it! I head a live version of it before, but haven't found it since then.

hmm..

raphael didn't play bass.

it's quest on drums,
pino palladino on bass,
raphael on guitar and
d'angelo on vocals and vocoder.

questlove once mentioned this line-up on the okayplayer boards. that is, if i'm not mistaking.

We must be talking about two different versions then because the credits only read ?usto and Raphael making guest appearances. Pino could NEVER rip a bass like that. Plus the fact you can tell it's Raphael because he plays the exact same way on "Untitled". That guitar player you're hearing (from the Scream 2 soundtrack) is Chalmers "Spanky" Alford who also played on "Untitled" as well. thumbs up!

well, well..

you could be right though.

the bass does sound like raphael.. but i could've sworn..

quest could've mentioned spanky. and since d mostly recorded with the same people i
could've gotten these two mixed up. but still.. bass is awesome, as is the rest.

You sure? I remember Quest doing a thread on it saying it was D on keys & guitar, Raphael on bass, and Quest on drums. I don't remember Pino being mentioned or Spanky being mentioned. confuse

I'll go with that theory. I just seriously doubt it's Pino. That had to be Bro. Ray! clapping
