Ndeed!! I always preferred the solo piano version of Africa to the album version! " I've got six things on my mind --you're no longer one of them." - Paddy McAloon, Prefab Sprout

The acoustic version of Africa is sooo superior than the released one. Its beyond me how he didn't include it in the album. His piano playing is really beautiful!

That n!@@a knows he can play! I agree, it would've been nice for him to include this version on the album. I like the other one just as well, just a bit too "I Wonder U" for me.

just a bit too "I Wonder U" for me. Thats EXACTLY why I'm not crazy about it. The acoustic one sounds more fresh IMHO!

okaypimpn, thank you so much for posting this. i had heard OF both these versions but hadn't actually heard them.
my reaction to "Africa" was "damn theres a song under all that production" ykno what i'm sayin? I always love acoustic versions of stuff. Didn't know D'angelo could sound so pretty solo like that! Makes me wonder why he hasn't thrown us a unplugged, or live album in the vein of Roberta Flack's First Take. The Roy Ayers cover, just beautiful!! Damn I wish I could play some jazzy chords like that. The ending sorta reminded me of "Game Show" by Kelis. I wonder if that's from some other song I don't know. These tracks will tide me over until his next release.

Yknow I don't think that's what the ending is from. Someone help me! Where is that coda from?

When you listen to a song like "Untitled" and how he's tickling those ivories it makes you wish he'd do more on the piano.

THATS why having the production copies makes music like this so genius.. take Yankee Hotel Foxtrot by Wilco.. its so heavily detailed and produced to perfectly, its hard to find melody at first glance.. but the more you listen, the more things pour in your ears.. then when you hear it live, stripped.. you can appreciate both versions and the angle they were aiming at.

A cover of Cameo's "Sparkle" This was intended for a group called "Twice" that recorded an LP that never saw the light of day. This song was produced by D'Angelo and features him on background vox.

Have You Heard the acoustic version of "Spanish Joint"? " I've got six things on my mind --you're no longer one of them." - Paddy McAloon, Prefab Sprout

Hello,
I cannot thank you enough for letting me hear the song "Africa". We have all been waiting so long already for new music, but he`S just not releasing it. It is very sad for all of his fans. A little bird told me he recorded a rock album with two other musicians at Electric Lady. I hope it`s true. I remember seeing and hearing his only concert in Germany. It was magnificent. I am wondering if this acoustic recording was produced within some radio show? Did someone say there`s also an acoustic version of "Spanish Joint"? So - thank you so much again for the track, much love Love...thy will b done

I finally got my hands on the 12" promo single about a year ago! I remember seeing the video once on BET and tried to find the song for the longest. Angie Stone and D'Angelo did the production on there. Sounds like they're the only ones singing background as well.

http://s2.yousendit.com/d...6F17A9E806 I love this track!!! It's from the Baby Boy soundtrack. D really freaked that Curtis Mayfield "Mother's Son" sample. Can't understand a word of what he's singing (although it still sounds good) and Marlon's southern VA accent fits the song so well!!!
