Personally, I'm quite fond of Norah. a bit too much, perhaps. redface

Naw, seriously, she's a talent. And, I think she'll enjoy a fairly long career, one of substance.

I can't get through one of her LPs with going bored zzz

...and plus I'm mad that she blew up and sold multi-millions while Alana Davis didn't. Alana's first two records are far more superior than Norah's. Plus, the girl worked with Craig Street who was responsible for Meshell's masterpiece "Bitter," but Norah gets all the glory when it was Street's production lacing her debut.

That's about it. Her albums are snooze-fests.

Lots of people here like her, but I'm not one of them. I think her sister is WAY more talented. http://www.anoushkashankar.com/

Norah's music is uneventful for me. It's nothing new. Nelly Furtado is WAY more creative, imo.

I'm pretty sure Nelly writes more than Norah. Norah bearly CO-wrote 4 songs on her first cd. Whoooopee.

Don't get me wrong. I do appreciate the fact that Norah is an apple. She can play and sing. That's nice. Just, for me, I prefer a little more creative juices... i.e. a pear like Nelly.

All i know is she is up for an AMA in the pop female vocal section. Did she have ONE hit on the pop chart or any other chart this year? She can sing, no doubt, but i think one hit wonders like: FeFe Dobson, JoJo, Ashley Simpson, Kimberly Locke and Fantasia had more chart toppers on the pop chart???

Evidence of a popularity contest?

She's nice. She's pleasant. Her music feels so right to me when I'm a bit down or the rain's falling. I haven't picked up her 2nd CD, but whatevs.

In the end all, there's always someone who is 'more talented' or 'more deserving' of fame at any given moment. Instead of analyzing her success too hard, I'm just gonna sit back and enjoy it.

It was refreshing to see someone like her blow-up so huge on the charts and in the press the past few years. Do I wish more like her would get that success? Sure. Am I gonna dislike Norah since she was the one graced with the music biz push? Nope.

K, this is just an observation. But your comment seems rather strange coming from someone who is so devoted to Janet- who has based her whole career on the strength of her producers while receiving much more fame, adulation and praise than Norah probably ever will.

Norah's a young talent. I'm willing to give her the benefit of the doubt for now.

ps- Her debut often put me to sleep as well. But I LIKED that wink

Thank you! no really, THANK U thumbs up!

Ain't no pleasing folks, its a desparate case. They're crying their lungs out about NOT seeing a real talent in the mainstream but when they do, they tend to jump on the "so & so shoulda been taking that glory instead of her" bandwagon.

Without any rambling. To me, there're 2 TYPEs of music: good music & bad music. The one that feels good in my ears are good music, Norah Jones is DEF falls in this category. Why? Cuz for ONCE, she's somebody with a high sense of individuality(as opposed to whats happening out-there esp with folks who walk around with their chests all out actin as if their shit is FRESH,,,,not!) she knows what she has which is not that much but she brings it ALL to the table and thats a big deal, instead of trying to be something she's not.

Like Billie Holiday, Nina Simone & Sade b4 her, she's an individualist/stylist. Give her some time, she'll woe everybody. For now she's a musical protege but in the long run she'll def force her stamb and soon you'll see everybody kissing her ass.

I personaly dig her ALOT and find her to be a very promising artist with a unique musicianship. Shit, cool thing is she doesn't rely on gimmickry like ALOT folks out-there,,,lemme just point that out whistling

P.S. I thought about posting this thread myself but then I said why bother, most FOOLS over here are shallow & look at things with a cliche vision. What do you expect?

woot! Norah! woot!

Some people slagged her off saying that "Come Away With Me" wasn't written by her and she didn't deserve to win awards for it. Well...she DID write it. rolleyes credited soley to her.
I agree with what you're saying Harlepolis. Some 'artists' are never good enough no matter what they do. If they don't write, they're less than talented. Then if they co-write, or write a song on their own it's still not good enough. That "Well they wrote it but anybody could've done that" attitude reaks of jealousy to me. Get over yourselves! lol

I've come to realize that you have to IGNORE the taste of other orgers
cause like light said
They Hate everybody...

I personally like Norah,
Its nice to unwind too,

But i have to listen to it when im in a mellow Mood.
Her First C.D. was Sheer genuis because of her Smoky Vocals and the gorgeous Instrumentation behind it,
the reason it won so much is because it was Simplistic in a Complicated Industry
It was simplistic and still sounded great
The Songs are written Beautifully
I don't give her the credit i give it to those who produced the C.D.

If im feeling i want to rock i won't sit down and throw on some Norah
but if i just came home from work, and im in a lil Jazzy mood
i'll throw it on.

People hate her cause she's not like other Vocalist in my opinion
I mean all these Singer song writers where respected and hated because they didn't Cow Tow to
The "Britney" genre
you have no idea how much it crushed me When
Jewel Became comercial
but alot of people liekd her like that
The female body is more powerful, than music
sad but thats the way it is,

I mean i understand if you don't feel her music, thats cool
but to hate her is a bit strong...
She's just another artist who has talent

I am not a huge fan...but can appreciate her.

She played with Prince at one of the Paisley parties and jammed with him for the only accustic set I know of. And that alone...she gets praise for me.

I bought her second album on the strength of Sunrise.

That song still can make me insanely happy whenever I am down....

Oooh, I need to visit Whateva's thread on lyrics that mean sumthing to you.

Back to norah; I love her laidbackness... she is growing. She will find a niche. Just realise that when Prince was winning fans over with his first three albums, most people here were still listening to Leo Sayer...

Why do the people that don't care for Norah have to be shitted on? Last I check, everyone is entitled to their opinion. The few songs that I have heard sound boring as hell. That doesn't mean that she is not talented, it just means that her music doesn't 'move' ME.

I like Sade, but some people don't. I have heard it said that Sade's music should come with a rope to hang yourself with because it sounds like suicide music. I disagree with that, but who am I to go off on a tangent about how people don't know good music when they hear it because they don't like Sade. Good grief. rolleyes

I like Norah, she's good for when we need something relaxing, or music when you're too wired to sleep?

Is she overly original? No, but she's good for what she is-her voice is soothing, and it's simple in its execution. She's not my first choice for favorite artist, but I think if anything maybe people might look into older artists as they get more into her-which is never a bad thing.

For the record PurpleCharm-I fucking love Sade.

She wrote the song "Come Away With Me" NOT the album. If you look at the credits, she wrote that one and Nightingale and co-wrote The Long Day is Over. Everything else was written for her by someone else. (My boyfriend got her cd as a promo and I'm looking at the liner notes right now.) The Song of the Year grammy for "Don't Know Why" went to songwriter Jesse Harris.
