I like Norah, she's good for when we need something relaxing, or music when you're too wired to sleep?

Is she overly original? No, but she's good for what she is-her voice is soothing, and it's simple in its execution. She's not my first choice for favorite artist, but I think if anything maybe people might look into older artists as they get more into her-which is never a bad thing.

For the record PurpleCharm-I fucking love Sade.

Why do the people that don't care for Norah have to be shitted on? Last I check, everyone is entitled to their opinion. The few songs that I have heard sound boring as hell. That doesn't mean that she is not talented, it just means that her music doesn't 'move' ME.

I like Sade, but some people don't.I have heard it said that Sade's music should come with a rope to hang yourself with because it sounds like suicide music. I disagree with that, but who am I to go off on a tangent about how people don't know good music when they hear it because they don't like Sade. Good grief. rolleyes

eek people actually say that about Sade's music, interesting. I like Norah's Jones first song but I never got around to buying it, I will eventually, they played it so much on radio I got sick of it. I have to be in the mood for Norah, I could'nt listen to her while driving in my car. I can listen to her while I'm surfing the web, reading or writing etc.
Ohhh you keep saying stay the niiiiiiiiight

I've never heard anyone say they hate her.She is cute and sings well.I have no problem with her,but I haven't bought any of her music.I just haven't been interested yet. That may change, but ,as of now,I'm satisfied knowing that she's talented and cute.

I couldn't understand the hype at first (and I'm still not sure if it was so deserved, lol) but I do like her now. When she first dropped I thought her stuff was SO BORING!!! It just didn't move me, but it's not really supposed to "move" me lol She grew on me. I listen when I'm cleaning up around the house or feeling REALLY leisurely (sp?), it's good music for that. I'd probably never go see her live, but I do enjoy both cd's smile She serves a purpose...

I listened to Norah's first album a few years ago (back when Audiogalaxy was out). I tried to get through it, but I ended up falling asleep. I awoke hours later and it was a brand new morning.

At least I got to class on time that day.

Some people slagged her off saying that "Come Away With Me" wasn't written by her and she didn't deserve to win awards for it. Well...she DID write it. rolleyes credited soley to her.

She wrote the song "Come Away With Me" NOT the album. If you look at the credits, she wrote that one and Nightingale and co-wrote The Long Day is Over. Everything else was written for her by someone else. (My boyfriend got her cd as a promo and I'm looking at the liner notes right now.) The Song of the Year grammy for "Don't Know Why" went to songwriter Jesse Harris.

In the end all, there's always someone who is 'more talented' or 'more deserving' of fame at any given moment. Instead of analyzing her success too hard, I'm just gonna sit back and enjoy it.

It was refreshing to see someone like her blow-up so huge on the charts and in the press the past few years. Do I wish more like her would get that success? Sure. Am I gonna dislike Norah since she was the one graced with the music biz push? Nope.

Thank you! no really, THANK U thumbs up!

Ain't no pleasing folks, its a desparate case. They're crying their lungs out about NOT seeing a real talent in the mainstream but when they do, they tend to jump on the "so & so shoulda been taking that glory instead of her" bandwagon.

Without any rambling. To me, there're 2 TYPEs of music: good music & bad music. The one that feels good in my ears are good music, Norah Jones is DEF falls in this category. Why? Cuz for ONCE, she's somebody with a high sense of individuality(as opposed to whats happening out-there esp with folks who walk around with their chests all out actin as if their shit is FRESH,,,,not!) she knows what she has which is not that much but she brings it ALL to the table and thats a big deal, instead of trying to be something she's not.

Like Billie Holiday, Nina Simone & Sade b4 her, she's an individualist/stylist. Give her some time, she'll woe everybody. For now she's a musical protege but in the long run she'll def force her stamb and soon you'll see everybody kissing her ass.

I personaly dig her ALOT and find her to be a very promising artist with a unique musicianship. Shit, cool thing is she doesn't rely on gimmickry like ALOT folks out-there,,,lemme just point that out whistling

P.S. I thought about posting this thread myself but then I said why bother, most FOOLS over here are shallow & look at things with a cliche vision. What do you expect?

she's good! I have both her albums and like them both a lot. it's the kind of album you
can put on most any time, wether you're alone just listening attentively or wether you're
having friends over and need some laidback dreamy music in the background.

I notice a lot of people say they don't like her because they know someone with much
more talent who went unnoticed. I think that's rather unfair toward Norah, don't you??
she can't help it that people picked up on her music and not on someone else's.

seems like the org only enjoys artists when they're the only ones who know about them
or something

It's easy to generalise- "everyone"???

I like some of Norah Jones' work, and think she is great live. I have to add that i don't know whether i "like" her, as i don't know her personally.

She seems alright, as a person.

I was going to say the same thing about generalizing people. We, the Non-Prince forum collective lol don't hate people. I've really only seen a few artists that really get bashed but there is always someone who likes that person and comes on here to say something positive. Folks shouldn't let what other people say about their favorite artists bother them. I sure don't. Look at what's said about Prince on here, and this is a Prince site. lol

I can't really speak on Norah Jones because I have only heard the one song "Don't Know Why" or something like that. It was boring to me. Maybe her other music is better than that one song. Since I will give any music a chance, I might pick it up and listen to it with an open mind.

i can't really say i "hate" norah jones - i don't think her music really inspires such heated emotion one way or the other - but i don't really care for her music. she's got a nice voice, she seems to be a really talented musician and a competent songwriter - i just find everything i hear by her to be really bloodless and sexless. sure, sade is just as mellow, but there's a suggestion of "va va voom" to her music that kinda makes a sade album something you wanna listen to when you're getting lucky. norah jones music is good for, like, i don't know - folding sheets. it's music i'd buy a relative who i don't know very well. it's music that matches the furniture. and if someone else finds something about her stuff that isn't just kinda vanilla or at most "agressively beige", more power to 'em. meanwhile, i'm not going to take the time to trash or "abhor" norah jones - in my opinion, she just kinda "exists". and good for her if she can make a career out of music that sounds like it's just kinda there.
