Hendrix found in Sweden

Long-Lost Hendrix Concert Tape Discovered

STOCKHOLM, Sweden - Technicians at Sweden's public television have unearthed an unexpected delight for music lovers - a complete original recording of a Jimi Hendrix concert in Stockholm from 1969 on a tape long thought to have been destroyed.

The unmarked tape was recently found stashed on a shelf deep inside the station's enormous archives during a project to transfer archived material from tape and film to digital, SVT spokeswoman Catarina Wilson said Friday.

"They looked through the tape and found it had some Jimi Hendrix," Wilson said. "Then they saw it had a lot of Jimi Hendrix - the entire concert, which is what makes this tape unique."

The black-and-white recording from Stockholm's concert hall was ordered destroyed by a producer in 1969, a time when it was too expensive to keep all raw footage, Wilson said.

Hendrix died in 1970.

Wilson said it was likely that one of the state-run network's workers, perhaps a Hendrix fan, stashed it on the shelf, where it sat for 35 years gathering dust.

Part of the 56-minute concert was broadcast on SVT in 1969, before the Jimi Hendrix Experience disbanded, but it has never been shown in its entirety. SVT is determining if it still has the rights to show the entire broadcast of the concert.

"Of course we realize that this is great material that we would love to show," Wilson said.

Thanx for the info , tA....

But hasnt this been available for some time now? Part of the video is on "Expirience: Jimi Hendrix " DVD(2001) ...and the audio of both shows of 9/Jan/1969 were released earlier this year as an "unofficial" release from PurpleHazeRecords Ltd.

Perhaps it was a different date?

Chances are you're probably right.
But depending on the quality of the find, you may get a better audio/video version of a particular song's performance.
The other upside is that it's a complete take of the concert.

The way I see it, you can't have too much Hendrix in your diet. nod

That would be a cool DVD! I wonder how many angles it was filmed from.
It says the "raw footage" had been ordered to be destroyed. So I assume it could be produced into something complete. Buried treasure!

That's really cool news! Maybe they'll find 2pac in Sweden too. wink

I couldnt possibly agree more lol

After rereading ,Im guessing it is the video portion that is newsworthy, however "Black Gold"(2002) claims it has already existed.

either way...good news

Did we all forget yesterday was that day (September 18, 1970), or is it that we don't want to acknowledge it? I know some don't like to recognize the date someone dies, so I'm not casting any judgements, just wondering.

I didn't forget. Not at all. pray I thought someone might have started a thread about it (I wasn't really online yesterday) but it looks as if they didn't. 34 years gone now. sad

My husband's birthday was also yesterday, and we always acknowledge Jimi's passing every year, since we are both big fans. He was born exactly when Hendrix died, and therefore thinks he's Jimi reincarnated. lol (He does play good air guitar, but that's about it confused )

So, as we do every year, we blasted Jimi all morning, ended with "Angel", had a big party at our house, and he wore his Jimi t-shirt.

Angel

Angel came down from heaven yesterday
She stayed with me just long enough to rescue me
And she told me a story yesterday,
About the sweet love between the moon and the deep blue sea
And then she spread her wings high over me
She said she's gonna come back tomorrow

And I said, "Fly on my sweet angel,
Fly on through the sky,
Fly on my sweet angel,
Tomorrow I'm gonna be by your side"

Sure enough this morning came unto me
Silver wings silhouetted against the child's sunrise
And my angel she said unto me,
"Today is the day for you to rise
Take my hand, you're gonna be my man,
You're gonna rise"
And then she took high over yonder

And I said, "Fly on my sweet angel,
Fly on through the sky,
Fly on my sweet angel,
Forever I will be by your side"
Angel came down from heaven yesterday
She stayed with me just long enough to rescue me
And she told me a story yesterday,
About the sweet love between the moon and the deep blue sea
And then she spread her wings high over me
She said she's gonna come back tomorrow

And I said, "Fly on my sweet angel,
Fly on through the sky,
Fly on my sweet angel,
Tomorrow I'm gonna be by your side"

And my angel she said unto me,
"Today is the day for you to rise
Take my hand, you're gonna be my man,
You're gonna rise"
And then she took high over yonder

And I said, "Fly on my sweet angel,
Fly on through the sky,
Fly on my sweet angel,
Forever I will be by your side"

redface Guilty as charged.
(Not a cop-out, but in general i'd prefer to celebrate a birthday than a deathday)

But Are You Experienced?
Have you ever been experienced?

Not necessarily stoned, but beautiful

=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=

Will the wind ever remember
The names it has blow in the past?
And with this crutch, it’s old age, and it’s wisdom
It whispers no, this will be the last

=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=

Anger he smiles, towering in shiny metallic purple armour
Queen jealousy, envy waits behind him
Her fiery green gown sneers at the grassy ground

Blue are the life-giving waters taken for granted,
They quietly understand
Once happy turquoise armies lay opposite ready,
But wonder why the fight is on

=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=

White collar conservative flashin’ down the street
Pointin’ their plastic finger at me
They’re hopin’ soon my kind will drop and die but
I’m gonna wave my freak flag high, high!

I’ve got my own life to live
I’m the one that’s gonna die when it’s time for me to die
So let me live my life the way I want to
Yeah, sing on brother, play on drummer

=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=

Fly on my sweet angel
Forever I will be by your side

=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=

So my darling and I make love in the sand
To salute the last moment ever on dry land
Our machine it has done it’s work, played it’s part well
Without a scratch on our body when we bid it farewell

=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=

If I don’t meet you no more in this world
I’ll meet ya on the next one and don’t be late
Don’t be late
