TRACY CHAPMAN(1988)

I dont care what nobody says..I dont think there's been a better debut than Tracy Chapmans 1988 self titled debut album..I think this album is a CLASSIC...its highly underrated!!! It stands that test of time...though its almost 20 years old..WOW!! There's not a single bad song on here.....and "Baby Can I Hold You" is a MASTERPEICE!!! Anyone else feeling me about this CD? Even though the subject matter was a bit "heavy" to listen to but I think that this CD still is a MASTERPEICE...an ESSENTIAL PEICE!!

YES! YES! YES! This album is a classic. The whole thing is quality from beginning 'til end. Not a bad track on this LP. I f**king heart this album.

Two weeks in a Virginia jail, for my lover, for my lover. 20,000 dollar bills for my lover, for my lover.

No words to say, no words to convey, this feeling inside I have for you. Deep in my heart, safe from the guards of intellect and reason, leaving me at lost for words to express my feelings. Deep in my heart.....deep in my heart.... look at me losin' control, thinking i had it whole, when a feeling's this strong, i'm no longer the master of my emotions Brilliant.

Mountains O' Things
She's GOt Her Ticket

EV-ver-ry single song on her is quality!

IF NOT NOW... My favorite of all times...
And what about TALKIN' ABOUT A REVOLUTION????

Tracy has been so underrated

Everybody remembers that "In Living Color" skit with Kim Wayans impersonating Tracy Chapman holding a guitar and singing "Fast Car." She would make up lyrics off the top of her head while looking out of her apartment window.

::to the guitar rhythm of "Fast Car"::

I see a crackhead down the street, lightin' up, no food to eat...

Some lady gett'n her a** beat.... Kids is crying, ice cream truck down the street

Liquor store open 'til 5, I see a man sittin' on a cardboard outside

Anyone remember that ILC skit?

Yeah! Yeah! Hey, does anyone know if that skit is on the In Living Color Season 1 & 2 DVDs? I've been meaning to get those compilations for a while now.

her last album (let it rain) is beautiful..a very quiet and almost religious listen.....i really think she has found an artisticgroove....For me, Crossroads was her weakest album..it has some wonderful tracks but it doesnt work as a whole album..same goes for New Beginning....some awesome songs...wonderful songs but i tend to skip from song to song depending on my mood....Telling Stories & Let It Rain are collections that must be enjoyed from start to finish...."The Only One" (that features Emily Lou Harris) off of Telling Stories is my hands down favorite track.....

Tracy Chapman (debut) is a great introduction to her music.....but her more recent stuff (while not as accessible) are equally rewarding....

good post. Tracy's recent stuff is sublime. I really like Crossroads, though. I think it's underrated.

My favorite Tracy song though is The Love that you Had from Matters of the Heart. Such an amazing song, great lyrics.
