Let's make a list of the worst songs from the 80s

Recently,we had a great discussion about music going downhill since the 80s.But let's not kid ourselves, there was some of crappy music during that decade too, lol.Remember these lousy tunes?

"Dancing On The Ceiling" by Lionel Richie (1986)
"Rhythm Of The Night" by DeBarge (1985)
"The Safety Dance" by Men Without Hats (1983)
"Get Outta My Dreams,Get Into My Car" by Billy Ocean (1988)
"We Built This City" by Starship (1985)
"Lies" by The Thompson Twins (1983)

Any others? lol

btw,it's all a matter of taste and we're just having fun with this, lol. But I'd really like to see what songs from the 80s that you hated too.

Ok, these were really bad:
"Get Outta My Dreams,Get Into My Car" by Billy Ocean (1988)
"We Built This City" by Starship (1985)
"Dancing On The Ceiling" by Lionel Richie (1986)

Looking back, "Rhythm Of The Night" is lame, but I liked it at the time.

I still love Lies and Saftey Dance. wink

Shake Your Love by Debbie Gibson is pretty cheesy...

"Say You,Say Me" by Lionel Richie (1985) ---I'm a huge fan of Lionel, but let's be honest,by the mid-80s,he was putting out tepid crap like this.Hard to believe that THIS is the same guy who once wrote classic songs like Kenny Roger's "Lady" and the hit duet with Diana Ross "Endless Love",both of which are top-notch songs.

"Missing You" by John Waite (1984) ---the 80s was filled with songs like these....catchy yet totally predictable midtempo rock tracks with nothing interesting going on at all.

"Rumours" by Timex Social Club (1986)

razz

But I just saw this HORRID video....someone named Feargul Sharkey or something?? I don't know if that's a band or a person, but it doesn't even matter. shake

the song about wearing sunglasses at night...think it was recorded by an actor....speaking of songs recorded by actors, "Party All The Time" by eddie murphy was pretty damn bad

Back in 1983 when it came out,I liked "Lies" too.But I heard it recently and i was like "Damn, this song totally sucks"..lol...many 80s songs just don't age all that well.

"Lies,lies,lies yeah...they're gonna get you...Lies,lies,lies,yeah....they won't forget you"

disbelief

lol But "The Safety Dance" sucked in 1983 and it sucks today too

Ok, ok. Lies is the worst Thompson Twins single. I agree. Safety Dance is cool to me. Maybe it's nostalgia? The video is so goofy. giggle

By the way, Missing You is a great track. I love it. It's really hard for me to think of songs I didn't like back then.

Yeah, and can anyone honestly say that when they hear the intro to this song, that they don't chant along "S. A. F. E. T. Y. SAFETY DANCE!"

lol

falloff All of those songs you listed, I actually liked. lol

But the songs I absolutely HATED with a passion from the 80's included:

"Mickey" by Toni Basil (totally annoying cheerleader-sounding song).
"Two of Hearts" by Stacey Q (the part that annoys me is the "I-I-I-I need you" line).
Mr Roboto by Styx ("Secret, secret, I've got a secret").

I'm sure I'll think of some more. lol

falloff Ready for the Curl lol A lot of people thought that was a song by Prince, since they totally copped his sound and image. lol

Saw this video on VH1 Classics last night. Man, it just made me realize that the 80s was a bad hair decade!!!

I've never been particularly fond of Ah-ha's "Take On Me." *shudde* I can't watch that video.

"Unskinny Bop" by Poison. Possibly the DUMBEST song ever written. What the hell is "unskinny" anyway?? Is he saying he's into sex with fat girls? Fine dude, whatever floats your boat, but don't write a piece of shit like this one.

For that matter, most of the Poison catalogue should be included.
