The Fugees to Reunite

The Fugees to Reunite
Posted on 09/15/04 at 8:47 PM ET
Written By: Adam Gonshor

After a very lengthy hiatus, which many assumed was a split, The Fugees are ready to get back together.

Wyclef Jean, one member of the hip hop trio, which also includes Lauryn Hill and Pras, said everyone is talking on good terms.

"All the Fugees are talking. We're all definitely talking," Jean revealed to andPOP in an interview this week. "The energy is definitely good energy."

Jean was hesitant to reveal too much information, but said the future will be clearer to the rest of the world in the next two weeks.

In the past few years, Jean went through a public war of words with Pras. He also has not had a good relationship with Hill since they released their last album, The Score, in 1996, which went on to win Best Album at the Grammy Awards.

"I spoke to Lauryn. I spoke to Pras. And just real good energy, good vibes."

Jean explained how other hip hop groups have capitalized off the Fugees by using them as a blueprint.

"It's important for the Fugees to come back and just show them what the next chapter is because there's a whole other chapter that they didn't touch yet."

Jean said new material from the Fugees probably wouldn't debut for another year and a half.

nod Of course, if their money is running low, a reunion would be a perfect oppurtunity.

very true. Clefs last few albums flopped. Pras was a one hit wonder, and lauryn went nuts. so it would be easy money.

Say it ain't so. I look forward to this if it happens but I'm kind of doubting. There was just too much bad blood when everyone thought that they were going to be huge solo artists. I remember in a recent interview that Wycelf was talking shit about Pras, saying he was a one hit wonder and that he produced his one hit!

Let's keep in mind there was alot of bad blood with Fleetwood Mac but they pulled their reunion off and profited from it. Never say never folks.

Kind of like the I Love Lucy episode where Lucy & Ethel (mad that they've both worn the same dress), start dismantling each others' gowns while performing. But with knives.

In my opinion:
Fleetwood Mac isn't the greatest example of a reunion.
The results of the Fleetwood Mac reunion are mixed.
They had a successful tour.
A so-so cd.
And it wasn't the whole group anyhow - it was more a Buckingham/Nicks reunion with Mick Fleetwood & John McVie playing back-up.

Aerosmith is a good example of a band breaking up,
making nasty comments about each other,
trying solo careers
& then having a successful reunion.

Am I the only one who's not really excited about this news? I really liked 'The Score',but to be honest,it was mainly because of Lauryn's contributions. Her amazing remake of "Killing Me Softly" is the reason I bought the CD in the first place.Wyclef is cool, but he played himself out in recent years.Pra's post-Fugees career is non-existent these days.I guess I'd rather hear a new solo CD from her.

I really love Lauryn's solo work, but unlike many others on this site, I also really love Wyclef's solo work. I have all his cd's and I enjoy everyone of them. Granted, they are not as deep as Lauryn's music, but Clef is fun and so is his music.
