The real reason CBS cancelled Madonna's concert special

This is something I read on another forum, which I find quite amusing...

According to this week's Star magazine,Madonna will keep the 10 million dollars paid to her by CBS for her cancelled concert special. And the source goes on to say that the cancellation had more to do with the show's content than running time.CBS execs had major issues with the anti-war and anti-Bush parts of the show and wanted them edited. The announcement for the special was made on May 19th,five days before the show had premiered in L.A. and before CBS knew of it's political content

falloff

I'm laughing because Madonna has been in this situation so many times, and she always profits from it somehow! Remember the "Like A Prayer" Pepsi commercial fiasco in 1989? The controversy over the music video made Pepsi pull the ad,but she still got to keep the 5 million dollars they paid her.And in 1990,when MTV refused to air her steamy "Justify My Love" video, she quickly sold it in stores as a "video single" and it became a must-have stocking stuffer in the winter of 1990...lol...and now here she is again, getting banned and laughing all the way to the bank.Love her or hate her,you gotta admit she's a shrewed businesswoman.

I know there are folks who are gonna insist that "she planned it that way....she knew damn well that CBS would object to parts of her show....that's why she took the check BEFORE she allowed them to see one of her shows"....lol...

what idiots are running CBS? first they let Janet show her old tit at the SB, the highest rated show of the year, in spite of the fact of numerous "leaks" on MTV and her webpage that something wild was gonna happen..then they give a $10 million dollar check to a performer who was just kissing two female performers last year on TV...did they think she was gonna read from her children's books? dummies

Madonna was smart enough not to pull off her stunt on the SuperBowl though. She did it at the MTV awards where all sorts of crap happens. Madonna aint that stupid

Exactly...good for her! Not her fault that the Mainstream can't take her antics. I mean COME on this is Madonna...haven't they read the tour description. She'll pull the American Life Video for TV...but this is her concert. I have never known her to compromise her show.

But there have been numerous descriptions of her show...hell it was anopunced what it was before she even started. CBS must have their head shoved up their butt.

Colin Powell's son is the head of the FCC.

The FCC of course is behind the affected outrage over the Super Bowl brouhaha (did CBS get fined? I can't remember).

One of the head honchos of Clear Channel is a major contributor to the Bush administration.

What did the FCC do with the Clear Channel stations Howard Stern (who I can't stand, but that's neither here nor there in this thread) was aired on? Booted him from CC stations, and fined him for "indecency." As if he was all of a sudden doing something new he hadn't been doing in the last 20 years. Oh, that's right, he's been criticizing Dubya, and you cannot do that on Clear Channel stations.

It's ALL a huge smokescreen designed to get people to avert their eyes from the real issues that should get idiot Bush voted out of office in November. CBS has been pussified.

That is all.

CBS is the old fuddy-duddy station now. I was surprised they were going to air a Madonna concert to begin with. Guess I have to wait for the home video now!

There was another news story which claimed the reason was because she wanted the concert to air commercial-free.

CBS didn't want to lose out on the high-dollar air time it could sell to advertisers.

You know the equation:
(1 hour concert - 30 mins of commercials - 10 minutes of network promos) = 20 minute concert.

You gotta love Madonna for this. Laugh at the CBS execs for being so moronic. Where are all the stupid people when I'm looking for a little extra cash. Oh wait, they're at CBS.

That's what really pisses me off about CBS, even though this story will be brushed under the carpet while everyone will harp on the typing of notes saying Bush was a joke in the national gaurd. The media is liberal if the media keeps telling you it's liberal!
