I didn't think Whitney looked that bad, especially compared to that one performance last year or whenever it was that she looked SO skeletal. At least tonight her arms didn't look so twiglike and her collarbones weren't sticking out a mile.

I think she looked ill, though. I kept waiting for her to faint. Her upper lip was all beaded up with sweat and when the performance ended she knelt down right away. I wouldn't be surprised to hear stories later of her going backstage and passing out or needing some medical attention.

The whole thing is so sad. Whitney had such a talent and gift and threw it away with both hands. sad

i dunno...whitney always did sweat a river when she performs. no doubt she was nervous...this was her first performance as a sober person in how long? i hope she gets back to where she was. it would be nice to see a true comeback story!

That's true - I thought of that too in regards to her sweaty upper lip, being due to nerves vs. illness.

I guess maybe her seeming ill to me was actually more due to what Redayh said... about how she looked like she had lost her sparkle and confidence.

At any rate, I too hope she has/can finally overcome the drugs and can get back to where she once was.

They should really be called the Euro Trash awards. That show is just Euro Trash and an insult to music. I only saw a little bit of Whitney going through the moitions and making a few yelps of songs she used to sing the hell out of and Patti Labelle in a blonde wig with Big Boi doing some of "Ghettomusik" (No Andre...sucks that they don't perform it together!)

worship clapping You would think, with how many times I've heard it, I would be able to keep my eyes dry when I hear 'I Will Always Love You' cry I don't care how many drug jokes there are about Whitney Houston, she's still got it. Just not as much. sigh
[Edited 9/15/04 20:02pm]

nod Hell Yeah. Whitney difinitely pulled it off and I am happy for her.I wasn't feeling Celine, Avril,Usher, Kenya West or pimp Alicia. I was kinda feeling Outcast and Patty. Come to think of it, the only interesting things about this shitty award show was Whitney and Outcast w/Patty. Because, the rest of the show was a piece of doody that needs to be flushed down the toilet. I am sorry folks but, I got to give my twocents.

oh my god, prince looked HORRIBLE. he looked like an anorexic joyce de witt.

but my FAVORITE part of that year's WMA was when they had JORDY, the french infant rapper, come out with a troupe of showgirls and lip-synch his song, "it's tough to be a baby" - they showed a reaction shot of prince in the audience and i'll always remember the look of absolute naked horror on his face. lol

falloff

prince performed on a show with a rapping baby?! wait, hold up...prince lip synced on a show with a lip syncing rapping baby? evillol

how salty am i that i missed it!!

No...French performer "Jordy" backed up by his female dancers performed his rap "C'est Dur Dur D'etre Bebe" which translates to "It's Tough To Be A Baby" , Jordy runs off stage during his performance to kiss "Prince Albert". The camera crew scanned the audience like they always do to get reaction from other celebrities and they just so happened to show "Prince The Purple One's reaction which was funny. Prince was not involved in Jordy's performance whatsoever. This particular awards show aired approx. 10 years ago. I remember watching it and everyone was talking about "Jordy's" performance...he was just a cute lil boy. Jordy is now 16 and in a metal band called Kat Mon Dieu.
Ohhh you keep saying stay the niiiiiiiiight
Just let me rock you 'til the morning liiiiiiight
It's cold outside
And much too late to driiiiiiiive
You know I need you baby
I'm so lost without your love

i wanted her to hit that note so badly...what a shame that she f'd up her voice. worst of all, she must know it. i mean, she knows what her voice used to sound like. don't get me wrong...she sounded better than most folk (and that's something for her to be proud of)...it just wasn't what she used to be capable of.

I only saw Whitney's performance. And I too was pulling for her. She tried to fix herself up in the regal glamour of her glory days. She looked better and sounded better than she has in recent years, but no where near when she was at the top of her game.

Remember the AMAs and Grammy right after the Bodyguard album came out? Now those were courses in how live performance should be.

I have those performances on tape. There was never a better live performer. Yeah, Beyonce, Christina, Mariah and sometimes Celine can give a good live vocal performance today... but no where near what Whitney could do.

Others hope to sound as good and flawless as their recording ... but a live Whitney could make a recording sound like shit by comparison. She was so strong, dynamic, on key, incredible (i'm thinking of her "I'm not living without you/Porgy and Bess" medley, especially.-- I mean people gave her a 10-minute standing ovation. It was unbelievable that a voice could be so precise, controlled and evocative)

Her voice was truly a remarkable instrument that she has sadly fucked up. I hope Clive can help her recover a little bit of that magic.

And underneath that makeup last night her face looked so sad and hard. It was painful to watch. Gotta still love Whit, but I will not forgive Bobby! smile

(and I'm sure you've heard that Bravo picked up the reality series "Being Bobby Brown" which will air in March of next year-- so we'll get to see more of Whitney's life with this man.)

-- edit follows for the porgy and bess ref ...

I remember that video for Jordy and Beavis and Butthead were watching it. Funny as hell. "C'est Dur Dur D'etre Bebe" but it's also tough to watch and listen to that with a straight face.

Observations:

Am I the only one who noticed that when LaToya came out introducing Hillary Duff's performance there was a lot of murmuring in the crowd, no one was responsive and they sat their kind of stoic?

I felt kind of embarrassed for her. I don't know how to take the girl after the things she said about Michael in the past. But I guess that's all behind the siblings since she, Jan and MJ were arm-and-arm at the court preceedings last month.

Damn, Seal really did some major asskissing during the Alicia Keys segment. You'd think the guy was scouting a new spouse?

Why did Hillary Duff lipsync like that and jump around the stage like she was rocking the house?

Avril Lavigne, despite criticisms, seems to be really appreciative of her fans.

Why did they cut short one of the best performances of the night -- Big Boi and Patti Labelle -- to inundate us with a constant barrage of advertisements?

Usher is still cocky as ever. When he received his award, he motioned for the audience to stand up and subsequently praise his "achievement."

Nope. And she said someone thought she was the LaToya from American Idol, and she replied, "No, I'm the original LaToya"....as if that's something to be proud of. whofarted
