Janet Jackson 2005 tour? I would really like to see Janet tour ‘coz I’ve never seen her perform live. I thought with the release of Damita Jo, I’d finally have my chance, but I’m not so sure now ‘coz there has been so many conflicting reports about either a postponement or outright cancellation.
Anyway, I ‘m just curious, but since sales for Damita Jo have been lackluster considering her past success, would any of you other Prince/ Janet fans still be interested in going to see Janet perform live either in support of DJ or maybe something similar to Madonna’s Re-invention tour, kind of a retrospective of Janet’s career? If so, do you have any thoughts or ideas about a concept?

I thought her tour was to begin this month? Didn't she already schedule the opening date?

Didn't she already schedule the opening date? No, according to some sources the tour has been postponed due to the elections until January 2005. Then most recently, I read that the tour might not take place until the summer because Janet wants to work on some movie projects??? None of this has been confirmed by an official source, so I don't really know what is going on. During the Damita Jo promo tour, Janet said that the tour would begin in September 2004, but that didn't happen, and there was no official explanation.

Well, either way,it looks like she has something big planned for 2005.

That's a great way of looking at things! Yeah, I would love to see Janet in another movie, but I would also love to see her tour. I hope she does both.

Janet's playing it smart.
It is an election year. Politicians (mainly conservatives) will use ANY reason to take the heat off of the real issues. Just think if Janet's tour were to start around this time -- a time when the FCC recently slapped CBS with a fine for the Super Bowl halftime show (not just Janet/Justin breast-bearing incident, but the ENTIRE SHOW) -- conservatives would attack her tour and say that "it's a shame that this woman is messing up America with her filth," in turn, taking heat off of the disaster that is Operation Iraqi Freedom: the debacle that was the Fallujah Brigade, the now-historic 1,000 number death toll of US soldiers, the irrevocable fact that Bush lied about W.M.Ds, the fact that Spain and other countries are pulling out of Iraq and are now becoming increasingly "anti-American," the fact that peace will NOT be brought to Iraq by the time of the country's first democratic elections in January, etc. She would be the de-facto subject on CNN and CNBC news shows, the late night talk show joke mill would pick up -- and it's just not cool. Plus, most of the focus this year is on Kerry and Bush -- not on entertainment. Album and tour sales have been sluggish for all artists this year. Her tour would only suffer amidst all this. If Janet were to tour in '05 it would be more advantageous for her. The Super Bowl sh*t would be a year old, the elections would be over, and would become more of a distant memory. Janet can figure out new ways to put on the world tour or she can flip a 360 and do other things. The girl's going to tour, regardless, it's in her. . [Edited 9/14/04 11:42am]

The real reason the tour probably never happened was because they didn't expect Damita Jo to flop. Once it flopped demand was non existant. Unless Janet is like Prince and Madonna and can draw a crowd without a hit album.

We'll find out next year when the tour starts.

Janet has done the same show for the past 14 years. Simliar costumes, same themes, same cherography. You CANNOT use the name of God, or religion, to justify acts of violence, to hurt, to hate, to discriminate- Madonna

Madonna has never really said anything negative about Janet (publicly),but I think Mdddy has pissed her off on more than one occassion. In the early 90s,Madonna was hanging around with Michael Jackson and the two of them were gonna record a duet. But Maddy went to the press and playfully suggested that her main goal was to "get Michael out of the shoebox he is in",basically implying that he is a closeted homosexual and that it would be her "duty" to get him to come out.She even wanted him to hang out with her openly gay dancers. This pissed Janet off and she has been making less-than-flattering remarks about Madonna ever since. In a 1994 Vibe interview/cover story, she dissed Madonna's 'Sex' book and took delight in the fact that Madonna's 'Erotica' CD was less than a blockbuster. In another interview from this period, she said "I could stand on the freeway with no clothes on and people would notice me too.But would that make me an artist?".If the two of these ladies were ever locked in a room together,I would kill to be a fly on the wall...lol...

Yeah,I wonder the same thing well, i mean, really...janet has so much as admitted on oprah that she is competitive with her brother and has a professional rivalry with him yet rarely is that rivalry mentioned. instead people focus on one woman vs. another woman. what's more is that janet's and madonna's styles are SO different from one another and always have been. the comparison makes no sense to me...

Well they're both highly successful women, who were famous around the same time (madonna about 4 years earlier) and they both are great performers, dancers, both strip a lot (madonna stopped, but janet still does). They both pulled off a stunt within the same time period (Madonna and Brit and Janet and Justin) ANd they both have extreme longevity in the music industry. I guess they're sort of the Britney and Christina from their generation and has carried on for awhile.
