My vote's on Mr. Jackson. Here in the subways of New York, you don't see kids dancing for change to Elvis songs. KIDS!!!!! Today's generation!!!!!

Um, that's probably because Michael is still alive and still making music?

That's like saying, "Who's the more famous actress? Reese Witherspoon or Katharine Hepburn?"

Reese.....because some kids know who she is.

Hendrix is dead...
and everybody knows who he is...
young and old...

so Hendrix Obviously beat out elvis lol

lol

lol
the sad thing is Elvis mostly remembered for that tacky white suit and dying on the crapper
MJ vs Elvis...

its impossible to tell

two different generations

thus this is a stupid thread

Well, Mikes only about a buck fifty. Elvis was in the mid 200's when he died. So Elvis is bigger. Though there is still time for Michael to let himself go.

MJ for sure.

He's much more famous than Elvis or any other person on Earth.
More importantly, Jackson has touched every audiences, from every gender to every races, something that Elvis never achieved.
He also had the longest career possible to make ( he's had his first #1 at 11 back in 1970).

THAT GIVE HIM WHAT TWENTY FIVE YEAR CAREER?

REMEMBER MICHAEL CAREER DEAD ALMOST TEN YEAR NOW

FRANK SINATRA SELL RECORDS FOR LONGER TIME

WAY LONGER TIME AND LOT MORE RECORDS

ALSO HEY SASSY

LITTLE KID NOT KNOW MICHAEL SONG

LITTLE KID KNOW CREEPY GUY ON NEWS

THAT NOT SUCCESS

that's a very illogical leap, my little monkey friend. my cousins have no idea about mike's legal problems since my aunt and uncle don't encourage their children to watch sensational news. besides, in 1993 the kids were about 2 years old...they certainly weren't aware of anything (including mj's career) back then. i would imagine that my cousins are not the only little kids who aren't aware of circus of this trial. how many kids watch the news, anyway? besides...even if they are aware of the accusations, that does not mean they don't also enjoy his music and know him for that. i mean, by any other artist's standards 'invincible' was a big record.

I don't know exactly who is more popular, but I do know that MJ has been more successful at crossing over than Elvis was.For example,in 1983/84,everybody around the globe was listening to 'Thriller'.It appealed to rock fans,R&B fans, pop fans, etc."Beat It" was even played on FM rock stations. For all of his success,Elvis never really had the type of crossover appeal that MJ enjoyed.

But then crossover markets weren't as large or as easily penetrable in Elvis' time. It's worth noticing that he did cross over quite successfully to country and gospel markets.

Elvis, by a long way!

His lookalikes have become an institution. He has a museum that is one of the most successful in the world. He is topping the charts 25 years after his death, and his songs transend generations.

People say, "where were you when Elvis died?" as if it were Kennedy or Neil Armstrong landing on the moon. They are not going to be saying in 25 years time, "where were you when Michael was convicted of child rape".

As for the kids of today not knowing Elvis.....they know Avril Lavine's songs, but it doesn't make her bigger than Madonna.

If you're musically literate, that's hardly a difficult task. I'm sure few of the "kids today" could do it, but then naming 3 P. Diddy albums should land them 25 in the state pen, so they're not exactly barometers of good taste.

No. I don't think so. Very few people own Elvis Presley albums - and that's a fact. Everyone might have their own copy "The Ultimate Collection" or something in that vein, but other than that most people are so unaware of Elvis Presley's recording catalog it's almost endearing.

Exactly. Elvis managed successful multiple cross over, and topped both of the main entertainment industries.

We are talking who is the biggest superstar. Not pop star.

Yeah, 'cos getting number one albums around the globe more than 30 years after you first started in the music business is always a good indicator of a career being over. rolleyes

Elvis might have made movies, but they were all bad.
Michael literraly made the best music videos and pionnered the medium that transformed the landscape in popular culture during the last 25 years.

Elvis has never been a important figure in the movie industry.

If you want to talk about multi cross over, Elvis has simply been a successful solo artist.

MJ has been the top solo entertainer ever (whether you like him or not) and the frontman of one of the most successful group of all time.
MJ has had #1 hits on the R&B charts, Dance charts , AC charts, Pop charts both solo and with the Jackson 5.
He's been inducted twice on the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.
He's won far more awards than anybody.

His songs transcend generations? Are u kidding?

Most people don't know any Elvis songs. However, MJ's songs are constantly played on radios and clubs, covered and sampled.
Michael's had a more profound influence on today's pop culture.
