?uestlove presents Babies Makin' Babies

Gotdam I love this mix. Originally released a couple summers ago on BBE/Urban Theory, but I didn't really notice it floatin around until more recently.
Now ?uestlove (Drummer for the Roots) is also known for his crazy record collection but this compilation doesn't really get into anything too rare, but I think he was going for a commercial edge so that he could continue to compile more editions for BBE.
The tracklist reads like a list of "old school joint of the day" threads the org has had in the past. lol
Should note that most DJ-presented mixes have the tracks segued together but this is a straight up unmixed compilation.

Yeah. 70's soul, baby. Let's go:

Smokey Robinson "Quiet Storm" © 1975 Motown
Heatwave "The Star Of A Story" © 1978 GTO
New Birth "It's Been A Long Time" © 1973 BMG
Deniece Williams "That's What Friends Are For" © 1976 Sony
Bill Withers "Can We Pretend" © 1974 Sussex
Patrice Rushen "Before The Dawn" © 1975 Fantasy
Earth, Wind & Fire "Clover" © 1973 Sony
Minnie Ripperton "Inside My Love" © 1975 EMI
Rufus & Chaka Khan "Magic In His Eyes" © 1977 MCA
The Rationals "Glowin'" © 197? CGC
Jean Claude Toran "Next To Nature" © 1976 Philadelphia Int'l
The Isley Brothers "Sensuality (Parts 1 & 2)" © 1975 T-Neck
Stanley Cowell "Sienna: Welcome My Darling" © 1977 Fantasy
Roy Ayers "Gotta Find A Lover" © 1977 Universal
Gino Vannelli "Wheels Of Life" © 1978 A&M

*One track that was listed on the inside but doesn't appear on the CD (probably due to last-minute clearance issues) is Michael Henderson "Be My Girl" © 1976 Buddah

fro Good job, Ahmir Thompson!

nod I got it on vinyl. One thing that stopped me from buying that comp was the fact that I prefer George Benson's version of The Star of a Story.

It's on George's Give Me The Night Album. I have it on a compilation someone burned for me. Trust me. You won't want to listen to the Heatwave version anymore.

Yeah, cool. Heatwave's Rod Temperton wrote some smooth shit! MJ fans need to know the man behind so many classic Off The Wall and Thriller joints.

It's been a long time since I've heard either version of "Star of a Story," but at the time Benson's was released I pretty much liked both equally. I'll have to listen to both again to see if I've changed my mind.

I think i got this in 2002 or so when it came out. I love star of a story. I like how A Tribe Called QUest reworked that sample.
