No Madonna on CBS

CBS and Madonna parted ways this week. Apprently Madonna didn't want to edit her show and asked CBS to run it without commericals.... They said NO. Madonna said fine. There will be no Re-Invention on CBS
You CANNOT use the name of God, or religion, to justify acts of violence, to hurt, to hate, to discriminate- Madonna

Latest 'Reinvention' has been scrapped

By MICHAEL SCHNEIDER- Variety

Madonna got out of the groove with CBS, where plans for a concert featuring the Material Girl have been scrapped.
Eye, which announced the special at its upfront presentation in New York last May, had planned to air a Madonna concert from her current 'Reinvention' tour. Taping was scheduled to take place next week in Lisbon, Portugal, for later broadcast on the network. But Madonna and CBS couldn't come to terms and have parted ways.
According to a CBS spokesman, the singer wanted the broadcast to run beyond two hours and commercial-free, similar to concert specials on HBO. The Eye balked at the requests, specifically wanting to keep the broadcast to within a two-hour time frame.
Madonna has previously appeared in three concert specials for HBO: 2001's 'Madonna Live: The Drowned World Tour,' 'Madonna - Live Down Under: The Girlie Show' (1993) and 'Madonna - Live! Blonde Ambition World Tour '90' (1990).

madonnalicious can confirm that advertising issues were the biggest problem in getting the concert broadcast, and CBS were still in discussions right up until the end of August.

thank god! this show was too good to interrupt with commercials and editing! my guess is since madonna is now back on good terms with warner bros, they wanted to air the special on hbo. this may have just been a way to get rid of cbs without looking like she was pulling out on the deal. of course a network is NOT going to part with 2 hours+ of commercials and madonna knows this. i'd be willing to put a wager on the likelihood of this show airing on hbo now.

Huh? I guess you don't want anything to interfere with the sitcoms that feature fat and/or ugly husband who is married to a semi-hot woman or the "Law and Order" rip offs with special effects, also known as "CSI". I guess there is a God, and he must be in the 18-49 male audience.

I just hope the show goes to DVD sooner now.

Good news. Commerical breaks and editing would ruin the show.

Fingers are crossed for HBO -- either way, there's got to be DVD.

You do realize it was at Madonna's hands whether or not this was played on CBS and she decided no. So you must be agreeing with Madonna, hey David's right about gman being a Madonna fan.

amen! but I love watching Madonna trying to sing! It's like a bad Amerian Idol audtion!
Can you imagine Siomn Cowels face if an unknown Madonna walked in to audition for American Idol singing accoustic set, with her "english/american" accent!

Good for her. It would'nt have worked out on CBS anyways. I mean, you know how risque Madonna shows sometimes gets, so I'm pretty sure CBS won't be having that.

Madonna didn't do anything risque really at this show. This is the first Madonna show you can sit with your grandmother and feel comfortable.

After seeing this i realized the mature person madonna has become.

"Everyone's taking off their clothes now in days, what's the point," not a direct quote but a quote a la Madge. God bless that woman.

Madonna doesn't sing with an accent.... nor talk with an accent if you seen her in recent interviews.

its funny to me that people who haven't even seen the show are commenting about how she can or can't play/sing/whatever. all i can say is i am a big critic of madonna's...hell, how many debates have davideye, voices carry and i had about madonna? i am also a big fan and maybe that's why i'm so critical of her. regardless, madonna's voice sounded better on this tour than i've ever heard it sound before (personally, i think her voice is usually kinda sucky live, especially on throughout the drowned world tour and towards the end of ANY tour). i don't believe cbs wanted to edit out her performance because of the way she sings...i'm sure it was about all the war imagery, kaballah references (visually, there are quite a few), commercials and time limits. not too mention time warner will probably give her more money for airing it on hbo.

Why do people keep bringing up HBO????

It's not going to happen. WBR has nothing to do with AOL Time Warner. It was sold. WBR is independent of AOLTimeWarner.

She signed an 8mil contract with CBS/Viacom to show the tour. Which means they have the sole right to Broadcast the show. Regardless if it's shown on CBS or not Madonna has the 8mil in her pocket. If it would be show on a pay channel it would be Showtime... because it is owned by Viacom as well.

There will be NO HBO!!!!!

The reason Madonna is having so many problems with WBR is because of the new owner wants to cut costs and doesn't think Madonna is worth the money they pay her... because she isn't bringing in 10mil in album sales anymore. As if anyone is, but that's what's going on. The recond industry is in a slump and the Biggest Names are going to feel the Burden of it. Hince the blow up between Madonna and WBR. WBR was sold because TimeWarner was losing money and they thought it was best to cut loses.

umm...i saw the show...and i loved it...but the guitar songs were downright aweful.....she cang play the guitar and her voice strains (probably because she is consentrating so much on playing that damn guitar).....i would have loved this show if not for the momentum killing guitar shtick...

i commend her for attempting something new..but if that something new doesnt work...stop it...

My take on this...

Madonna wanted this to be more than two hours and no commericals. She was probably gonna add some additional footage, since the show itself is under two hours. This show is a massive production and there's alot going on at the same time.I'm not sure it would "work" on network TV.I'm sure CBS would have edited the erotic video images that are displayed during "Frozen".It's also likely that they would have edited the brutal war images that are shown during "American Life",not to mention the provocative shots of George W.Bush and Saddam Hussein...lol...there are other parts of the show that may have been edited as well. After all the edits,it would have been an incomplete show. And let's face it,Madonna is right.A commercial every few songs would have ruined the "flow" of the concert.Madonna should try to get this show aired on cable (HBO,Showtime or even MTV),where there would be less interference from the network.

As someone who has seen the show three times,I'm not the least bit disappointed by this news. But I do feel bad for the fans who didn't get to go the actual show (VoicesCarry) and were waiting for the CBS broadcast. But look on the bright side...the cancellation of the TV broadcast can only mean that we will get the DVD sooner.

Yes,she is.The situation with Maverick has been settled and she's gonna remain with WB for her next two albums.
