Laurie Anderson Is Playing Chicago in October!!!

She's playin' the Vic Theatre on October 28!!! Tix go on sale this weekend!

This pretty much means that this year I'll have seen just about every freakin' musical artist that means anything to me. Prince, Bowie, Diamanda, Pixies, Cure...now Laurie! woot!

and here i thought i was done taking days off work to go to concerts....oopsies! lol

i'm really beside myself with this news...laurie anderson has been a favorite of mine since waaay back in the day. the first "alternative" album that i ever bought - in fact, the first album i bought with my own money that wasn't a prince album - was laurie anderson's "home of the brave", back when i was 15 years old. i didn't know much about her, other than she had some cool/weird videos that they played on "night flight" and that the cover of the record was cool...and boy, was i in for a surprise - it's gotta be one of the funkiest albums ever made by an avant garde performance artist who's dating lou reed. lol nile rodgers produced it, most of the funk back-up band for talking heads performed with her, and in the middle of everything, william burroughs shuffles out on stage to do a tango with laurie (who, of course, is wearing a ski mask for the dance).

i've only seen her live once, and that was on 9/11/01. i was sure she was going to cancel, but she didn't. i think she went on with her show because she knew the audience needed music that day more than ever. it was a really surreal, really healing night, listening to her play her violin and talk about her thoughts on the day. it was something i really needed that day. ending such a horrible, infamous day by listening to laurie perform was almost a miracle to me - i'll never forget it.

i am insanely jealous INSANELY...you hear? mad

GAD DANGIT...I Just went looking for her yesterday online to see what's been going on...tour, new album, new book SOMETHING. I got caught up in her recent interview online regarding To the Moon (something like that).

And of course I see you went to the famous 9/13/01 show...again INSANELY jealous. In a good way though.

I remember the first time I saw her was at the park west...it was what was to become "the ugly one..." CD. I wasn't expecting stories (I knew practiacally nothing of hers) I was entranced! SHe came soon after for the Bright Red Tour...THAT was amazing. We got her Puppet Motel CD-ROM and everything.

It's Definitely time to see her again. Maybe she'll come out this way. Fingers crossed!!! SHe is truly one of the great thinkers/artists of our time. Shame she didn't open the Olympics like she was supposed to.

well, i wish the circumstances had been better for the show, but all things considered, it was an astonishing show.

I really like the stuff that she did in the 80's. This show should be interesting.

i don't know why she's touring or doing shows right now...i haven't heard of any new record or projects...i've just heard that this time around, it could just be her with her violin - which is completely fine by me. nod
