I can give some respect to the Funk Brothers, even if I don't know more about them outside of the fact that they ARE the MOTOWN sound. I'll rent that documentary about them soon, cause it's quite a lesson to learn that they're the music behind so many Motown hits. If they were a standard group, and could have done all that on their own, They would have no equals in the business at all. Even the Beatles, Elvis, Madge and so on could only kiss their toe nails. That jazz improv style that they had certainly is worthy of praise, since it made it easy for them to sound so gorgeous. I'll put this on my agenda soon, they deserve the credit. ...just look him in the eyes and SIMPLEEEEE SHOOUUUTTTTT...!!! hee hee, seriously...i started a thread on marva whitney a while back and it was like posting to LastManOnEarth.org - you ever seen virtual tumbleweeds before? go find my marva whitney thread on here. tastes are subjective, and a web site's demographic is a weird kinda thing. i wouldn't read too much into the lack and/or proliferation of responses on various threads. it is what it is.

I missed the thread because the threads in this area of the site have been kinda dull...either that or there were 2 much posts about things im not interested in. The Funk Brothers, im so glad that i saw that documentary on them, it was awesome. I never knew about them until the DVD was borrowed for me. That sound is classic and no once will get that back. How does the oft repeated statistic go? They were behind more number one hits than Elvis, the Beatles, the Rolling Stones, The Beach Boys (and I know there were some others) combined?
Seriously though, the Funk Brothers deserve a lot of credit. The Boys in the Band always do in music history. So many artists, Prince included, wouldn't be as great as they were without great bands backing them up.
