But personally when im listening 2 anything... i don't think about whether it's black or white... it's just music 2me. After all... all musicians r a race in their own right, anyways... rnt they Unfourtunately only few people don't see color when they listen to music. Many time the Black gene dominates(other times its doesnt), for example if you saw Lenny, Lisa Bonet, Halle Berry walking down the street you would ithink that they are just black beacuse of theylarge variety of shades Blacks and latinos for that matter come in. Other people look mixed like Slash, Alicia Keys, Mya ect. I don't give a shit one way or another about any of that crap. Does Lenny Kravitz despise his father? If not, calling him "the man" is rude as hell. It would be like seeing a "white" person with a black mother or father and saying some stupid shit about showing those ignorant blacks how to play rock. Do you not see that??? How can you show someone who started something how to do it? I don't Lenny thinks of the man just as white people but the corrupt record biz in general. People are not educated on the true origin of ROck Music. In the 40's "Rock and Roll" was a sexual slang used mostly by blacks. THe first person to even use an electric guitar in popular Music was a black man. So Like I said in an earlier post It's not that he wnat to Dilute the memory of Great Artits (Dylan, Petty, Clapton, Beatles ect...) who happen to be white, But if you wanna talk about Rock and Roll let's just be accurate on where it came from. Common sense:
1. Lenny calls himself black. He is black. When the cops arrested his ass a couple of years back for mistaken indentity (remember that?), he was mistaken for a BLACK suspect, not a "human being". Honestly, its that ridiculous mentality of pretending that has this country all messed up as it is. Whereas affluent whites have the luxury of pretending everyone is the same, everyone else lives in the real world, where differences are recognized. Only respecting and accepting differences can make everything cool. 2. Black father + black mother = black = Prince. Purple Rain was just a MOVIE. Prince is not black/white. 3. I actually have a lot of respect for Lenny as a person after seeing numerous interviews, etc. The brother is well aware of who he is and how the world works. I still ain't feelin' most of his material, though. I do kinda like the Storm remix. Nice move on Lenny's part. Loose Jay-Zzzz and the track would be cool.

I told him that I was a guitarist and that he was one of my inspirations. Well, I wasn't lying to him. I do like his stuff and he has inspired me. He showed me that the brothers need to take Rock & Roll back from the "man". And then I shook his hand. He's a cool, nice guy. It was awesome. I could go on and on but even though the amount of blacks in rock is slim now isn't funny how the biggest rock star is Black (Kravitz) and the (arguably) biggest Rapper is WHite (Eminem). I always found that intresting. [Edited 9/11/04 6:51am] I never considered Sly a rock act. Maybe it's the attitude he came with or the fact he had a multiracial band but I don't hear it. Same with Prince...not too much rock.

[quote]What do mean "insensitive"? Sure, Lenny has a white father, but his dominant gene is his black one. So for all intents and purposes, he's a brother.
What was his reaction to that comment? did he seem like he agreed?

Same with Prince...not too much rock. Iguess Sly had more of the rock and roll energy than anything else but he was a rock star nonetheless. Prince was definatle a rocker especially during the Purple rain era. Rock doesn't have 2 mean heavy distorted guitars. "Thinking like the Keys on Prince's piano, we'll be just fine"
