I told him that I was a guitarist and that he was one of my inspirations. Well, I wasn't lying to him. I do like his stuff and he has inspired me. He showed me that the brothers need to take Rock & Roll back from the "man". And then I shook his hand. He's a cool, nice guy. It was awesome. [Edited 9/10/04 20:58pm] Lenny Kravitz has a white father. Sy Kravitz, I believe is the name. How totally insensitive to call white people "the man." What do mean "insensitive"? Sure, Lenny has a white father, but his dominant gene is his black one. So for all intents and purposes, he's a brother. And I made that comment about "the man" because it's the truth. Rock & Roll came from The Blues which was an indigenous black art form. And something that must never be forgotten. NEW WAVE FOREVER: SLAVE TO THE WAVE FROM THE CRADLE TO THE GRAVE.

Yeah, but at least he puts it all together himself. Writing, producing, arranging. Maybe he's not the greatest guitar player, fine. But he can craft some good songs. NEW WAVE FOREVER: SLAVE TO THE WAVE FROM THE CRADLE TO THE GRAVE.

[Edited 9/10/04 20:58pm] I'M SORRY TO BURST YOU HAPPINESS ABOUT MEETING LENNY, BUT BE CAREFUL OF THE HEROS YOU WORSHIP. MY BROTHERS BAND ..... A ROCK BAND (WHO HAPPENS TO BE BLACK) SENT THEIR DEMO TO ROXY RECORDS (LENNYS LABEL). NEVER GOT A CALL BACK, BUT LENNY USED THE MUSIC DOWN TO THE LAST NOTE OF ONE OF THEIR SONGS ON HIS ALBUM BEFORE BAPTISM. IT'S A PRACTICE THAT GOES ON REGULARLY IN THE INDUSTRY, BUT IT'S FUCKED UP, ESPECIALLY WHEN YOU ARE A SO CALLED UNIQUE ARTIST. MY BROTHER COULD SUE AND WIN LIKE WHEN LENNY STOLE JUSTIFY MY LOVE FROM INGRID CHAVEZ, BUT THEN YOU RISK BEING BLACKLISTED AND NO RECORD LABEL WILL WANT TO DEAL WITH YOU. TRUST WHEN I SAY LENNY IS VERY COMFORTABLE BEING THE ONLY BLACK ROCK GOD....IF HE HAS COMPETITION HE MAY ACTUALLY HAVE TO WORK. I USE TO BE A FAN OF LENNY, NOW I THINK HE'S A HACK. Its really a damn shame that he stole your brothers material. As for Lenny being the only black rock god, I think that he is undeserving of that title. This is a title that should be given to individuals such as Hendrix, Vernon Reid, and .

We expose them equally to both sides of their family, both the black and the white and they seem to love us all equally. Of course, they love my mother the most because she spoils them. I for one, do not agree with the mentality that one drop of black blood makes you black. I see that as the old slave master brain manipulation. I see them as 50/50 black/white with no race dominating over the other. Andy is a four letter word.

As someone who has bi racial niece and nephew and two small cousins, of course there is a balance and the kids love everyone but there will be a time when THEY will identify with one race or the other or say they are biracial. I also think that lenny and halle may say they are black because of experiences with race and racism.....maybe its about how they are treated that has made them "choose" if you will. But because they have made a decision to say they are black doesn't mean that they don't think they have the best of both worlds or that the don't love or appreciate their jewish/white family. I just don't think its up to anyone to tell a person how to identify themselves even a child.

I have a funny Lenny story, I'll keep it short, but it shows what he's like..
I was working at a recording studio where Lenny was doing a radio show special for about 100 fans. Lenny was late and made everbody wait outside for an hour, but he was a perfectionsit about the sound he was getting during soundcheck and a true professional. His sound man hated him, but Lenny was right, he is like Prince and wants "asses wigglin, he wants perfection!" Anyway, all the fans had left and Lenny was in the control room, and the door was open. the bathroom was about 50 feet away through the lounge. Lenny made a cop escort him to the bathroom thinking he may get mobbed. But when he went out to the lounge noone was there, so there was this cop escorting Lenny 50 feet to the bathroom with noone else around except me and my friend who were trying not to laugh. It was a total Spinal Tap moment! Something about Lenny trying so hard to act and dress cool, he just isn't. Where Prince is just cool, he makes it seem more real and doesnt even have to try. ______________________________________________

He has a biracial background but he is considered blackto most. In America Many biracial kids tend to lean more to there black side were they are more accepted and not as difffernt than they are from their white relatives. Some identify with the white side (this usually based on the place they are raised) . Many time the Black gene dominates(other times its doesnt), for example if you saw Lenny, Lisa Bonet, Halle Berry walking down the street you would ithink that they are just black beacuse of theylarge variety of shades Blacks and latinos for that matter come in. Other people look mixed like Slash, Alicia Keys, Mya ect. "Thinking like the Keys on Prince's piano, we'll be just fine"

If not, calling him "the man" is rude as hell. It would be like seeing a "white" person with a black mother or father and saying some stupid shit about showing those ignorant blacks how to play rock. Do you not see that??? "I hate both of those dildos (Bush and Kerry), but Bush seems to be a smaller dildo, although even a small dildo can fuck the shit out of you." - Mastodon on the election

[Edited 9/10/04 20:58pm] WE really Do. it is our music. not trying to dilute the memory of other rock artist at all but it seems that a lot of us turned our backs on it and as soon as hendrix died the color lines came up to an extent. I'm a guitarist also, My pictoral tribute to the True Funk soldiers of Modren Hard ROck, ROck, and Metal. Trying to keep the music alive. Post Hendrix ALL DEM SEXI PIX I could go on and on but even though the amount of blacks in rock is slim now isn't funny how the biggest rock star is Black (Kravitz) and the (arguably) biggest Rapper is WHite (Eminem). I always found that intresting. [Edited 9/11/04 6:51am] Thems is some good pickins I was just in Seattle readin up on hendrix (@ The EMP)... trust me his influence is very much alive! But personally when im listening 2 anything... i don't think about whether it's black or white... it's just music 2me. After all... all musicians r a race in their own right, anyways... rnt they Got Gackt??! J-Rock ME 2 Death!
