Any DeBarge fans out there?

Either of the band, or of any of the siblings? I seem to remember both Chico and El making a comeback in the late 90s.

I think "Love in a Special Way" is one of my "Embarrassed to Admit I Can't Do Without" albums, like Ace of Base's "The Sign".

Hey, now! What's wrong with DeBarge? I grant that not all of their songs were gems ("You Wear It Well", for example, is TERRIBLE), but I love these guys!

LOOOOOVE MEEEEE INNNNN A-SPEH-SHUL WAAAAAY...

yep, I like me some Debarge naturally smile all the smaltzy ballads like All this love, I like it, Time will reveal ... yes, You Wear It Well is fine too... some others might slip me right now.. I never can remember damn album track titles...

El as solo artists... well, the attempt to turn him into Michael Jackson II was a dead born baby as I see it... nice'n all... but nevermind. but the In The Storm album later on, now that was great!

also love the Switch albums thumbs up!

I like DeBarge's slow stuff. I don't like most of their attempts at fast songs like "Rhythm Of The Night" which sound too "poppish".

The only El DeBarge song I like is "Real Love". I hate "Who's Johnny"....once again, too "poppish".

I love Chico DeBarge's song "Talk To Me Baby" from the late 1980s but I hate his 1990s stuff.

In my opinion, Switch was MUCH better than DeBarge.

you might like "In the Storm" if you don't know it yet, not poppish at all. El finally gave a shit about crossing over and did a real soul album, his shot at Mavin Gaye's "I Want you"

Huge DeBarge fan here. Bobby's and El's falsettos were so sweet! I am a fan of every incarnation of DeBarge group. I love and still listen to all their stuff and El's Heart, Mind and Soul album is an absolute R&B classic.

Hmmm...the Org went crazy on me there for a few and posted my already composed message as a blank one, and then refused to let me edit it! mad

I really dig DeBarge and El's solo stuff, particularly their slow jams. I think theirs were some of the best written and composed R&B ballads of the 80s. Some of my favorite:

Time Will Reveal
A Dream
Who's Holding Donna Now
All This Love
Love Me In A Special Way
Stay With Me

And like PsykoSoul, I too think You Wear It Well is a keeper, but my favorite of their upbeat tracks is I Like It. Hell, I even dig Jomanda's house-y remake of it.

I love DeBarge (the group). Chico was a younger sibling and was never a member of Debarge...just an FYI for those that did'nt know. Chico has a total of 5 albums he has released. Following are some my favorites:

DEBARGE:

Love Me In A Special Way

I Like It

All This Love

Time Will Reveal

A Dream

Stay With Me (the song that Notorious B.I.G and Ashanti sampled big time)

You Wear It Well

Queen Of My Heart

Stop Don't Tease Me

...and more

El DEBARGE solo tracks:

Love Always

Can't Get Enough, It's Got To Be Real, Slide, Heart, Mind & Soul (The whole album is great)

You Know What I Like (duet with Chante' Moore - great album as well)

CHICO DEBARGE:

Rainy Nights

Talk To Me

No Guarantee (remix featuring Joe)

Long Time No See (the whole album)

Give You What You Want

Not 2 gether

...and more

DOES ANYONE REMEMBER WHEN CHICO DEBARGE HAD LONG PLATINUM BLONDE HAIR???

...since we're mentioning a younger sibling (Chico) I may as well add my favorites by "Switch" which included two more Debarge siblings/older - not members of Debarge, James Ingram's brother etc.

SWITCH:

There'll Never Be

I Wanna Be Closer

I Call Your Name

...and more

Last but not least, I would never be embarrased to like any song....either you like the track or you don't, why be embarrased...Debarge is a talented family and they have great songs...

HONORABLE MENTION FOR TWO DEBARGE REMAKES THAT ARE WORTH CHECKING OUT

TAMIA - LOVE ME IN A SPECIAL WAY (ON HER CD "A NU DAY")

JESSE POWELL - I LIKE IT (ON HIS LATEST CD RELEASED 6/1/2004 "JESSE")

Hey, I didn't know that! So the 5 siblings were El, James, Bobby, Bunny and...?

I'm having "All This Love" played as my wedding song. Laugh and I'll torch this place.

Bobby and Tommy Debarge were in the group "Switch", not Debarge

Chico Debarge was always solo - he released two hit songs in the 80's "Talk To Me" and Rainy Nights" - he released his 3rd album years later (he was incarcerated for awhile) and has since released a 4th and 5th.

The lineup of Debarge is as follows:

El

Bunny

Mark

Randy

James (Janet Jackson's ex hubby # 1)

I would'nt say poor, everybody and their momma samples Debarge's music and remakes their songs...they are paid off of Mary J. Blige, Ashanti and Biggie alone (ex. Rick James got paid 30 -40 million for MC Hammer's U Can't Touch This which sampled "Superfreak - that's one song and Rick James got paid). Imagine tons of artists sampling their music.

As far as the # of siblings there were 13...I just heard Chico doing a radio interview a few weeks ago and he said his dad just had new baby so that makes 14. Check out Fourplay's video After The Dance featuring El Debarge, you will see an even younger male Debarge sibling n the video as well...you can''t miss him, he looks like a Debarge. There was an album that came out a few years ago with the two youngest siblings, the mother etc....if I can find it I'll post the album cover. Bobby Debarge from Switch died of AIDS a few years ago.

Oh, Gawd. GAWD. I remember when "Foolish" came out, and listening to these kids all up in arms about Ashanti "stealing" Biggie's beat! I said, "Uh...I think DeBarge and Motown" may have had a hand in it, too.

Their response? "Who's DeBarge?"

Damned whippersnappers...

I hate that too...it irks me....I remember hearing some kid say who is this man singing over MC Hammer's song U Can't Touch This...I said umm MC Hammer sampled Rick James not the other way around...I have the album cover for the Debarge album with the mother etc...I'll post it in a few.

Are they working on an album or anything?I heard a sliver of a recent show months ago on Tom Joyner. I was aklways surprised that El hasn't had a more stabe career. He had all the gifts .I guess he had other demons, though.

People used to say I looked like the one that married Janet when I was much younger. That was cool for a hwile, but looking back he was looking kinda' "soft".So,I don'tthink I should have been that excited.lol.

Where are they? And where are The Sylvers??I used to love the girls in the Sylvers!!All those little groups that aspired to topple the mighty Jacksons!!Mike spun around and asswhooped 'em all!

Loved Switch...."I call your name"

Debarge "Time will reveal"
"Love me in a special way" song gets me all turry eyed
"I like it"
"All this love"

Chico Debarge.....He is just one SEXXXY mofo.

2 questions to anyone that might know.....

which member of Switch was it that passed away?
and not that it matter's but just out of curiosity what was they're ethnicity?
I am not African. Africa is in me, but I cannot return.
I am not taína. Taíno is in me, but there is no way back.
I am not european. Europe lives in me, but I have no home there.
I am new. History made me. My first language was spanglish.
