My whole collection is on VHS...I hope I don't have to buy everything all over again.

Actually, and maybe I'm stupid or under-equipped in the home theatre dept, what i want 2 do is capture the audio from "Rave Unto the Year 2000" on CD or cassette so I can listen 2 it in my car, etc. Is this as difficult as it seems?

You run the tape into your compooter into DVD editing software then on to a DVD burner. It simple. I dont have a DVD writer or I would be doing them for $65.

herb it isnt difficult at all if u have the right stuff..if u have ur dvd running 2 a surround sound reciever, there should b some audio rca jacks 4 output as well as input....it takes the input from the dvd and goes thru the out put 2 ur cd burner or cassette recorder... from there its all a matter of pushing play and record

u may wanna keep an eye on the volume tho cuz it might record at the volume u play it at...u dont want it 2 loud and u dont want it 2 quiet.

hope this helps u out smile

most DVD players will run what's called a VCD (video CD) or SVCD (super video CD) that can be burned on a regular CD-R. i've been experimenting with different clips that i transferred from VHS (and even old Beta) to my digital camcorder, and putting them on VCD's that will play in my DVD player. also currently building a new computer that will support a DVD burner as soon as they come down to the $300 range. first thing i put on the digital camcorder was the L4OA thing they ran on VH1, along with some of the videos from the same night (The Good Life, Dolphin, If I Love U Tonight, Count the Days) and some of the other Prince stuff i found lying around (Today show, Vibe, etc.) once i get everything captured with no dropouts and good quality, i'll be looking for some trades...

as for an audio-only copy of Rave unto the Year 2000, i just ran the digital audio out from my DVD player to the digital in on my minidisc recorder. instant digital copy...the new computer will have a digital audio in, so i'll dump it to CD-R at that point...

So you can't get software to make your CD-R a DVD writer? Do you need hardware too?

CD burners and DVD burners are different. a CD burner will make a video CD, but it won't make a DVD.
