Les Paul Junior - "The Minimal Guitar"

The most basic guitar you can make is a couple of pieces of wood, a set of tuners, one pickup, a stop-bar tailpiece, two pots with knobs, a pickguard, a jack and some wire, screws and glue. If you put it all together properly you end up with a Les Paul Junior.

Check out Leslie West's growling tone in Mountain's Mississippi Queen...

http://www.somethingabout...nimal.html

If I could find a lefty one of those, without having to give up one of my kids, i'd be seriously tempted.

The best looking Les Paul there is. Not much into the look of the original Pauls.

nod the Hofner Bass is probably my favorite of all time. I love the classic violin look, PLUS I'm a lefty!

Other favorites of mine include Prince's original white cloud (after that, I think he's just gotten carried away) and this Betty Page model owned by Wendy Melvoin and designed by artist Hilary Carlip:

I looked around online to see if I could find a pic of this for you, because it interests me as well. I found a website that lists all of Pete's guitars and equipment he used over the years since the late 50s.

It is UNBELIEVABLE how many guitars this man has owned and/or played. We're talking at least 100 that were listed! eek So, needless to say, I couldn't find that one you were talking about, although they listed tons of Stratocasters.

He's been around for about 40 years, and you know he busted up a ton of 'em intentionally. So yeah, I'm sure he's been thru a gang of 'em, and at least 100 probably only scratches the surface. biggrin

In a way, I'm glad because of Ace Frehley of Kiss, I switched from left to right when I was little, because I have always gotten compared to Jimi, all my life. And that's with me playing right handed. If I had stayed playing left, oh man, it would have been so much worse. So don't feel bad Odyssey.

I know. I didn't find that out untill I saw Ernie at The Roxy in 90 on his "High Wire" tour. He switched for a couple of songs. At first, I was like "o.k., he's cool playing chords, but let me see how he's going to be playing this lead." Ernie tore it up! I was so impressed. I mean, I always dug Ernie anyway, he's always been one of my influences. But when I saw him do that , I was fucked up. That takes so much dedication. I know Ernie did that because Hendrix used to do it like it wasn't shit. Jimi would do the same thing on a bass. He would just turn it upside down and play it like it wasn't shit. But I truly believe it was all natural for Jimi to do that. I don't think it was as natural for Ernie. So I really admired Ernie even more for that because I know he had to work on that to get it down.

In an interview once, Ernie implied that it Was kind of natural...Not exactly like Hendrix, but he did say that he kinda shocked himself, he thought it was strange when he found that he could play so well with the left..he said it was "almost like an alter-ego,...another version of myself"....

I wouldn't doubt it, but..it just looked more like Ernie had been woodsheding like a motherfucker to get that down.

If you're a righty considering a lefty axe, look at this guitar very carefully.

Hendrix Tribute Stratocaster

I got it because not only do I play left-handed but upside-down.
They were made to give rightys that Hendrix upside-down look.
They're discontinued now but were sold stock this way.

I should have gotten 2 while I had the chance. confused

hmmm I don't think I'm really inerested in playing upside down. I know a guy who does that too. If I go lefty, I'll probably just buy a left-handed guitar.
I've been told that companies don't really cater to lefties, but it would be cool even if it serves to find out how ambidextrous I am.

Just means that he plays a regular right-handed guitar and simply flips it around so the left hand is doing the strumming or picking. Doesn't sound comfortable to me, but everyone is different! biggrin

It's not as uncommon as you might think.

A couple of left-handed upside-down players you've heard of:

Old School

Albert King

New School

Doyle Bramhall
