Guitarist: I need your help!

My daughter wants to learn to play the guitar, but I am not financially not able to pay for lessons at this time. I would like to buy her a guitar to 'play' around with, until I am able to pay for lessons. I need help with determining what type of guitar is best for me to get. Nothing too expensive. Thanks in advance.

PC,

Heres one place you can start: http://www.musiciansfriend.com/

Go here if she wants to be a "folkie": ACOUSTIC
Go here if she wants to "rock": ELECTRIC

The "value packs" start at about $90-$100 and won't set you back too far if this turns out to be a "phase".

Might need a practice amp ($50 - $75) and a tuner ($20) as well.

Also there are free lessons online with sound examples too.

Maybe a mod will move this thread to the artists community and all the guitar players will add more info.

Don't forget pawnshops. Maybe pick-up a cheap guitar and amp for $100 depending on weasel skills.
