'Hello Dolly': Parton Plans Career-Spanning Tour

Dolly Parton will hit the road this fall for her most extensive tour in decades. Hello, I'm Dolly will find the artist performing material from throughout her storied career, from early country favorites and pop hits to recent recordings that revisit her bluegrass roots. The outing kicks off Oct. 14 in Greenville, S.C.

"In 2002, I went on a tour for three months to promote [the Sugar Hill Records bluegrass set 'Halos & Horns']," Parton says. "I realized how much I missed the road and how much the fans seemed to have missed me. It was just magical. I saw that I had some fans about all areas of my career... So I decided to combine all the things that I've done through the years."
Parton is also expected to perform slated for her fourth bluegrass collection, "Blue Smoke," due in the first half of 2005 via Sugar Hill. On Sept. 14, the label will separately release a double-CD and a DVD of performances from the tour in support of "Halos & Horns." Both titled "Live and Well," the sets were captured at the Celebrity Theater in her Pigeon Forge, Tenn., theme park, Dollywood.

Rehearsals for the upcoming tour will get underway in Nashville shortly after Parton plays a quartet of Bluegrass/Southern Gospel Festival dates at Dollywood at the end of the month.

"I think there will be something for everybody," she says. "I wanted to do it in a big way so all of us can enjoy it. My band and I are really looking forward to this!"

He's right here, and thanks for pointing this out to me. I have a friend getting married that weekend, but wedding schmedding! I've yet to see Dolly in concert, so this is a must for me.

And I just checked ticketmuster - she has a show the following day on Omaha, and tickets for that go on sale this Saturday. They don't even have a listing for the St. Paul show yet.

I have never been a fan of country music, but I love Dolly. She has such talent for writing meaningful and beautiful lyrics. I don't like her voice much, so I doubt I would want to see in her concert, but I do respect her as a lyricist.

I'm very excited about this. Bought my tickets today. I didn't realize they went on sale yesterday, so I didn't get superb tickets. Kinda bummed about it, but I'll get over it once I'm there.
