Stevie Wonder's I AINT GONNA STAD FOR IT

" I Aint Gonna Stand For It" from Stevie's HOTTER THAN JULY album has got to be his most underrated song....it hit #11 pop and made #5 r&b but you NEVER hear it played on radio anymore..anyone else feeling this song?

Same here!! I LOVE that song, first jam on the album! Strangely, whenever I read reviews, comments on this album, this one almost always gets ignored or at the very least gets a passing mention. Especially love how it just crashing into "All I Do"..it's as if Stevie is saying, "The 80's are here, no more smooth segues!!", LOL!

'Rocket Love' & 'Lately' are the best, but I like the whole album.

You are correct; Uncle Charlie is credited with background vocals on the track. My favorites from the album are "Rocket Love" and "All I Do" (featuring a background vocal cast which includes Betty Wright, The O'Jays, and Michael Jackson).

I also like "Do Like You"....."oooooh you done broke mama's lamp!"

Another one I really like on that album is "Happy Birthday". Stevie and others really went after getting Dr. Martin Luther King's birthday a national holiday and in the end was successful. I remember when Stevie got himself arrested that year. He was truly a bad man.

Most people measure Stevie's artistic prime from Music of My Mind to Key of Life. I measure it from Where I'm Coming From to Hotter than July. This was the first album he made where he attempted to incorporate disco, country and pure reggae into his music and while you could argue that's not as artistic as his previous ones, it's at least as fun.

"I Ain't Gonna Stand For It" is classic Stevie.I love that song! I think it was covered a few years ago by Eric Clapton. The 'Hotter Than July' album is solid. My other favorite song on that album is "As If You Read My Mind" ,a strong uptempo jam that nobody ever really talks about. It could have easily been a single.

"Hotter Than July" was a VERY solid album! It was great to hear Stevie also keeping up and CHANGING with the times (bot not doing so in an embarrasing, old-man-at-the-club" manner). I never realized what a beautiful song "Lately" was until recently. And I also love "As If You Read My Mind".

I think it's brilliant how it goes from this parody of a "country song" to this sweet funked out tracked. This is one of my favortite songs by him.
