Yeah, it's good. I actually went to this when I was very young. My mom and dad took me. I have had this for awhile.

Music From The Wattstax Festival & Film (3CD set) . . . CD . . . $22.99

Ace/Stax (UK), 1972 (3CD) Condition: New Copy

The full story of the legendary Wattstax concert from 1972 -- an LA gathering of Stax Records artists, working together in a righteous and political setting to celebrate the diversity and struggle of Los Angeles after some very troubled times! The event was billed as the "black Woodstock" -- and given the huge roster of talent, certainly was the biggest concert soul music had to offer at the time. And while the original first and second volume of the concert made it onto vinyl and CD over the years, this 3CD set is the first time the full range of music has been presented. Much of Isaac Hayes' tunes have been moved off to the separate (and excellent) Isaac Hayes At Wattstax CD -- and a huge amount of previously unissued tracks have been added to expand the set into a 3CD package! Titles include "In The Hole" by The Bar Kays, "Explain It To Her Mama" by The Temprees, "I Forgot To Be Your Lover" by William Bell, "Them Hot Pants" by Lee Sain, "Better Get A Move On" by Louise McCord, "Pin The Tail On The Donkey" by The Newcomers, "Precious Lord Take My Hand" by Deborah Manning, "Heavy Makes You Happy" by The Staple Singers, "Salvation Symphony" by Dale Warren & The Wattstax Orchestra, and "Up Above My Head" by Rance Allen. 47 tracks in all!

Watched this last night,... it's fantastic. !!!!!...the transfer of the film is awesome ,looks brand new. i wish they added full performances as extras on the dvd. there is one with Albert King and the original ending with Isaac Hayes performing" rollin down the mountain side ".

that original ending of Hayes performing was shot weeks after the concert , due to the fact that MGM wouldn't let Stax use the Shaft Theme in the movie.
so in this new DVD release Shaft is put back where it belongs.....havent yet listened to the commentary , I'm sure that will make it even better.

Rob Bowman wrote a great ...very informative book on Stax which came out a few years back.....he does some of the commentary.
there is a video of Rob talking with chuck d .BUt it's only 5 min. long and maily talks about the influence of the movie on Public Enemy.

Just wished they made this a 2 disc set with outtakes of the performances.....BUt maybe they don't exist, i would find that surprising though....
