Lamya: Learning From Falling

(J, 2002)

Does anyone out there agree that this album was slept on?
I kind of expected a bigger push for Lamya, especially since she came out when J Records was still pretty new. I really think she's a smart woman, with clever and insightful lyrics. My favorite tracks are "Empires", "I Get Cravings", "Splitting Atoms" and "The Woman Who". I hope she gets another shot. wink

Empires
Bring me men - bring me men to match my mountains
Bring me men - bring me men to match my plains
Men with Empires
Men with Empires in their purpose
And new - and new eras in their brains

Bring me men
Bring me men who'll turn the page
Men with vision
Visions of a new age
Who will not engage
In foreign rage and distant war
Whose policies of peace
Legends and Legacies restore

Bring me men - bring me men to match my mountains
Bring me men - bring me men to match my plains
Men with Empires
Men with Empires in their purpose
And new - and new eras in their brains

Bring me men
Bring me men that do believe
You reap as you sew
Give as you receive
Bring me not Kings
With arbitrary reign
Prepare me the way
And let my freedom sustain

Bring me the warrior
Shepherd or leader
Hunter or Hider
Whether a lawyer
Doctor or Teacher
Spiritual Preacher
Wheeler and Healer
Spin Doctor Dealer

Bring me men - bring me men to match my mountains
Bring me men - bring me men to match my plains
Men with Empires
Men with Empires in their purpose
And new - and new eras in their brains

I danced with her once onstage during "Love Come Through" (from Soul II Soul Vol.2), I remember that record and because of my "experience" with her I was going to drop the dollars. But a few people (whose musical opinions I valued) said that it was just "Alright" so I passed. Is there anything you can compare it to?

Peace, Serveitupfrankie*

The only reason I know of her is because she toured with Duran Duran as a backup singer. razz (Back in 93 I think.) She sang the girl's part in Come Undone.

I'd like to check her out. Her website is down. sad

You guys, give this cd a try. Heck, you can get it brand new from http://www.amazon.com/gp/...dition=all for as little as $0.01!!! I normally don't like comparing folks, but some of the reviews I've read have compared her to Bjork, Sade, Kate Bush and Alanis.
Oh BTW, she also sang backup for some dude named David Bowie. cool
