O.K. so why I was watching this I don't know but it opened with Los Lonely Boys jamming with Carlos Santana. Playing songs I couldn't understand but I had no choice but to feel them, just using the universal language of music.

The other acts were interesting and I wish I spoke Spanish but this performance of the old and the new just left me in awe. Just for the guitar playing alone, it was something I'll never forget.

Was I the only one who didn't watch the VMA's with no talent but did catch this meteor of talent flying over the airwaves?

Damn, I should have watched it. I read that Julieta Venegas' 'Sí' won the best rock solo album award, La Ley's 'Libertad' won the best rock album by a group award and Café Tacuba's 'Cuatro Caminos' won the grammy for best alternative album. I have all those CDs. They're all good.

Let's all hope that Shakira is the recipient of the next tragic rock star airplane crash

Seeing them live is what's happening.
I saw them open for Soulive here a while ago and they smoked the joint.

As guitarists, they are the truth.

Don't let the picture fool you, they're a 6-piece band (bass, drums, perc & vocalist)
A friend of mine described their sound as the "Mariachi Allman Brothers".

The Santana/Los Lonely Boys performance was amazing!

It was Santana's night as recipiant of the Merit award (or something like that) and he dedicated the perfromace to all Latin artists who broke into the mainstream. Beginning with Richie Valens (original name Valenzuela) and mentioned Los Lobos among others and introduced Los Lonely Boys as a continuation of the crossing-over as they ripped into a rocking version of 'La Bamba' then they went into a LLB song...I think it was 'Senorita'.....(I was really hoping to hear them sing their hit..'Heaven'....the catchiest song on radio right now!)

Then the ripped into a few guitar solos and duos and had everyone on their feet!

Real music indeed...real musicians...such a relief after coming off the worst VMA's ever!

LLB have quietly sold over a million records and I hope the establish themselves as a highly respected band...they're truly on the right track!

Jessica Simpson opened the show with Spanish superstar David Bisbal (who looks like Justin Guarini) and SCREAMED...NOT SANG...but SCREAMED her awful version of 'Angels'.

Why is she on everything?
