They're up and coming and I would highly recommend checking em out! Now, as far as Minneapolis, we have Atmosphere, Motion City Soundtrack, ...and, well...of course you could check me out! <---- myspace.com/caryaria .

I've seen Iffy twice in concert now and liked them both times. And when I saw them the people who I went with did not like them. Now I hear one of their songs in a lame-o K-Mart commercial.

Back in the day, there were several local acts here in Jackson, Mississippi on local record labels. Malaco Records is the most well known.
The group Sho-Nuff was known for some of the baddest slow jams out there such as "Don't Be Lonely" and "What Am I Gonna Do". The group Freedom was definately the baddest group here in Jackson. They were known for the funk. They had a sound similar to Skyy and they loved to play kazoos on some of their songs. They had jams called "Whodat" and "At The Party". They had a jam called "Get Up and Dance" that was sampled by nationally known Grandmaster Flash on one of his earlier jams called "Freedom". In 1984, they did a remake of Prince's "Do It All Night"....it was not that hot though. Jackson's own Freedom was definately bad as hell. Other local groups were Wynd Chymes, Sparkle, and the rapper, Kyper. Some of you may have heard of Kyper's hit "Tic Tac Toe". We also had a group called The Rose Brothers in the late 1980s who had a slow jam called "I Get Off On You" and a baaadddd assss funk jam called "Wall To Wall Freaks". There was also a local black dance television show called "Black Gold" that would put "Soul Train" to shame. If you remember, "Soul Train" would mainly play songs from the top 20 soul charts. "Black Gold" played everything. The first time I ever heard Prince's song, "Head" was on "Black Gold". The dancers on this show danced much better than "Soul Train". Soul Train's dancers were too concerned with trying to model and look pretty coming down the line. On Black Gold.....they got off! The show's host, Lee King, deserves credit also. He was a local promoter and brought all the funk groups to Jackson back in the day, including Prince and Rick James. Malaco Records is still around but is mainly blues and gospel artists. Back in the day, we had our own little "Jackson Scene" going on. Those were the days. [Edited 9/2/04 20:47pm] Andy is a four letter word.

I forgot to mention the blues scene that goes on here in Jackson. I used to like some of the blues back in the day but now most of the blues gets on my nerves. That is ALL you hear down here. Most of the blues artists out today are right here in Jackson and still live here.
Some blues artists from here are Denise LaSalle, Bobby Rush, and the late Z.Z. Hill. These are the only ones I can tolerate but I tell you practically ALL the blues artists live, record, and perform here. I couldn't even tell you all the blues artists out now but there is a whole radio station here that plays nothing but the blues. Andy is a four letter word.

Iffy is great! I knew a few of the band members a while back. A K-Mart commercial? I was in Hawaii in June, and I heard a Greazy Meal song on a cereal commercial. "I saw a woman with major Hammer pants on the subway a few weeks ago and totally thought of you." - sextonseven

Finis Tasby
(real deal blues man) Shouwburg "Agnietenhof", Tiel - Netherlands 3/2003 Tasby has worked with some of the great names in Texas blues --- Clarence Carter, Freddie King, Z. Z. Hill and Lowell Fulson to name a few --- before heading west in the 70s. Tasby's relaxed, velvety vocals and vibrant delivery make his contributions to this already solid collection a pure delight. http://www.bluenight.com/...h0400.html tA Tribal Disorder http://www.soundclick.com...rmusic.htm "Ya see, we're not interested in what you know...but what you are willing to learn.
