Remember This Album?

I heard "I Like" on the radio the other day and forgot how much I used to bump that song (even though I was 9 at the time! lol) Aaron Hall a.k.a. "Mini Charlie Wilson" was one talented singer. clapping

Teddy Riley was the Puff Daddy of the 80's.

He was the REAL one who built the bridge between Hip-Hop & RnB b4 Dr.Dre & P.Diddy claim the credit.

Yes! falloff

And you're so right, Harley. Puffy claims he was the first artist to fuse R&B with hip-hop when he brought out Mary J., but Teddy was doing this long before him! Matter-o-fact, Guy was the first group signed to Uptown records (where Puff got his start), so I don't know why he would all of a sudden try to claim that knowing the history behind it. Did he forget about Big Daddy Kane's "I Get The Job Done" or Wrecks-N-Effect? confused

You mentioned the right track. "I Like" was best track ona great album. Kinda said those cats never lived up to the promise of their debut album.

That guy on the left didn't even see the suceess of Guy. He left right before the album was released and they replaced him with Aaron's brother, Damon...which he still was pretty much like the third wheel. Last time I saw him he was on The Fifth Wheel. eek

Exactly. I would have thought they would have released more than two solid albums during their run. I know they broke up during the 90's but Guy III was bored

Hell, maybe they would have had Teddy not spread himself so thin back then,He produced or wrote almost everything on the damned radio back then. And if he truly had nothing to do with it,it was a family tree member or outright clone like Gatling. Then,Teddy has those issues with Gene Griffin ripping him off, etc.I remember seeing Gene Griffin inTower Records around that time and he looked so slimy to me.He had like a colorful leather jacket on and some young chick was with him.I had a lot of belief in Teddy's talent and knew Gene was a slimeball.

I have been surprised that Aaron was never a bigger artist.he had a great voice and the girls seemed to like him. What happened?

Hey, I liked this album and considered it a great one from the eighties. I feel that Teddy's best time was right around GUY's peak and his work with Bobby Brown, Heavy D, The Winans and Big Daddy Kane. I never got too much into BlackStreet, but he did well enough with them even with all of the line up changes. I'll go out and replace my cassette with a CD. I liked The Future as well, that was another gem. Too bad it ended with that album.

Gene maybe was a slimeball (check "Gotta be a leader" or "total control") but he made some of the funkiest records competing with teddy ("why u wanna get funky on me", Basic black album is a true hidden gem of hardcore newjack, Mind) so Gene is cool with me!

Timmy Gatling made an album! First 3 tracks slam hard! "Help" "Cheatin'" "Rock me good" r all on par with Guys first album in my book!

Aaron got replaced by R kelly, who ripped his voice and style on the slow jams (I know Aaron ripped from C.Wilson).....

Remember the track Teddy did 4 Al green? "as long as we're together" or something like that.....I swear that is a Teddy track, have to check!)

Anyone got the Guy promo mix of "dog me out"? Damn that slams bigtime.....even Damon sings on this one.....plus an extra verse by Wrecks n effect man Aqil Davidson!

Guy's "the future" is alot better in my view.....great all the way through, ending with surprise gospel song "long gone".....

Don't forget Winans song "A friend" done by Teddy and crew! A gorgeous dong that has helped me thrugh alot!
