chaka was dissapointing...maybe she should cut down ont he bags of hair she uses so it wont weigh her down -- that might help out with her breathing, therefore, helping her sing better  | |

Why is it that way for Chaka sometimes? She can be Really Great and really Shitty sometimes? I saw her one New Year's Eve in NY at the Roxy and she wasn't That Great either. She is one of my Favs but not Always Great Live. | |

The question SHOULD be could Chaka hear herself? Was her ear monitor working or was she just singing off memory? It sounded to me like she couldn't hear the track and was singing without listening. All those posting on this thread who can outsing Chaka raise your hands.....now everybody with your hand up....post proof or STFU. Chaka is not known for lame performances. Everybody has one or two bad ones. We're not even sure if there weren't technical problems. Cut her some slack. | |

hate to say it, but seeing Post-Rufus Chaka is a 60-40 gamble...60% you'll get a fairly good show, 40% you'll get something awful. I've seen her 6-7 times, including with Prince. it got to the point where i expected something terrible and was pleasantly surprised. back in the 80's when she was drunk and coked out half of the time, she gave some truly terrible performance. One of them is the concert video she released in 1985 This Is My Night. That had to be the worst ever performance EVER recorded..she was drunk, off key and missed her cues throughout the whole show. why Warn A Brutha's even released that trash is beyond me. you look better on your facebook page than you do in person  | |

I was dissapointed in Chaka's voice.. She was horrible.. and normally i hear her and I would know its her right away.. I was shocked that THAT was coming out of her mouth... Very dissapointing! The R&B diva is blaming strained vocal cords for her screeching performance at Sunday’s awards show in Miami. A statement released Tuesday by her publicist, Brit Reece of PMK/HBH, said Khan had to cancel a performance in Park City, Utah, Friday night because her voice was strained and she was under doctors’ orders not to perform. However, she “received a cortisone shot just hours prior to her VMA performance to honor her commitment to Kanye West.” Reece said the shot helped her a bit, but she still struggled through the performance of “Through the Wire,” which contains a sample of Khan’s old hit, “Through the Fire.” Reece said Khan’s voice has been strained because of intense recording for an upcoming album due out in October. Chaka has been off for years. She sings like a bad fretless bass player who is sharp or flat and never hits the true note. I am tired of hearing the jazz technique as an excuse.
I love her stuff on albums but this is not the first time by any means. Even big shows like Hard Rock Live with better than avg monitor systems she been off. Hey she still has a great back catalogue just hasn't been the best live. Still not as bad as Mary J. who I swear has a curse over half the nation who list her as a talented singer. I will say those Anthony Jackson basslines make any voice sound 10x better. ain't nobody.... Music is the best... | |
