"Electric Gypsy" by Harry Shapiro & Caesar Glebbeek is probaly the most informative.
"The Ultimate Experience" by Johnny Black is great too.

I will also reccommend "Hendrix: Setting The Record Straight" by John McDermott W/ Eddie Kramer (Hendrix' Engineer)

&

"Black Gold: The Lost Archives Of Jimi Hendrix" by Steven Roby

No one mentioned "Scuse Me While I Kiss The Sky" by David Henderson. I have everything written on Jimi, but this was the first one. I was 12 years old when I got this one. Tony Brown wrote "Jimi/The Last Days" which talks openly about Jimi's death and HOW he died. The first book to really speak on evidence of Jimi being murdered. A dark and sad book, really. Overall, "Crosstown Traffic " is the one I would say someone should read first who has never read a book on Hendrix. Good place to start. Very informative and fun to read as well.

Co-sign on that. I just started reading it again.
Great book for putting him in the context of the social and political climate of that time.

I've seen it online in paperback with a slightly different cover design that my hardcover version.

You'll dig it and it'll make a nice addition to your collection. nod

Tripe-sign on that. Out of the 3 or 4 books on Hendrix that I've read. That one has got to be the most informative and detailed.

That was great! Bill did an excellent job on the artwork!

not only is the artwork topnotch, but the story incorporates lots of hendrix's lyrics, both released and unreleased, and also includes a very moving poem from John Sinclain, and the cd of acoustic hotel demos that it comes with is classic. the versions of "1983" and "angel" are worth the price of admission alone.
Keep your headphones on.
