"Won't you listen to what the DJ's spinnin'! He's tappin' into just what you're feelin'!"

The Deee*Lite Thread

After all the unanimous love for them that I experienced with my org buddies in Chicago, I had to bust them out after a long separation. I had all their albums on one format or another, but realized that none of them were CD's. I had to remedy that by running out and buying their Greatest Hits.

What's amazing is that for an electronic act, their songs have aged so fucking well. They're as fresh and hip and vibrant as the day they came out. I just found myself dancing ecstatically and smiling non-stop in my bedroom to "E.S.P.", "What Is Love?", "Applejuice Kissing", "Pussycat Meow" and "Stay In Bed, Forget The Rest". All their songs are great though. If you think they're just a one-hit-wonder, give them another chance. They'll make you very, very happy. mr.green

It's funky and sexy and smooth. Perfect for this time of year. It almost reminds me of the Beasties in places.

I LUUUUV DEEE-LITE! All of their albums...I saw them live in 1990 and they killed it. A full live band featuring Maceo and Bootsy...You can't go wrong. Groove Is In The Heart biggrin

I love everything they've done.

Dewdrops in the Garden is one of my favorite summertime CDs.

Infinity Within inspires me for greatness when getting ready to go out- my attitude and outfit are never better than on nites I listend to that CD before hitting the clubs.

World Clique is a classic. A loverly CD which always brings back awesome memories of being high and living carefree in highschool. (not to mention "ESP" was one of the first 'electronic' tacks I ever fully submitted to)

thumbs up! I'm glad you've rediscovered them, gangsta! smile

well...everyone (hopefully) already knows that deee-lite are in my top five bands. and that lady miss kier was idol in high school flower sexy when World Clique came out...i thought i was going to die....i was like OMG heres a band thats everything that i believe in....and the outfits and shit were just amazing....plus "its got a funky beat that i can bug out to" wink
i love all 3 albums for different reasons and for periods in my own life. World Clique reminds me of being a teenager...dancing my ass off at first avenue every sunday...dressing up liek lady kier love i saw them live at Glam Slam here in Minneapolis when I was 15 for the world clique tour....it was fucking amazing! nod
Infinity Within, is prob my favorite staple deee-lite album.....just because i love the environmental/pro organic food/pro choice/pro safe sex/pro love (well all 3 albums are pro love) mesaages that are sent on this album. i love chuck d on it in fuddy duddy judge headbang flower infintity within reminds me of a later teens/early 20's time in life...things were crazy...but i was becoming strong in my beliefs at that time...and this album encompassed alot of what i believe in woot!
Dewdrops in the Garden, i love...and reminds me of my raver days nod eek lots of road trips out of town spent listening to this album, on the way to a rave in chicago or milwaukee or iowa or wherever it was that weekend. giggle lots of day after partying up all night spent listening to this album...reminds me of a whole crew of people who i rarely see anymore. a car load of us took a road trip to chicago to see deee-lite at the metro for the dewdrops tour.....it wasnt nearly as good as the glam show show in mpls afew years earlier...(i think the group were on drugs..like most of the audience...including myself and my freinds) but it was still awesome!! rabbit we went to an after party after the show.....and i actually got to meet miss kier...and i gave her a hug...i met dimitri too biggrin it was a fun/crazy road trip! :flwoer:

Didn't listen to music for many years. It took TRON and Bjork to open the door ~ now it's a crazy nonstop catchup joyous ride to hear everything I've missed. I'm lovin every minute of it!!!!!

It is hard to describe ~ more like a very dark period of time when NOTHING happened. Just going through the motions with no awareness or emotion. It lasted for several years and there was a compelling reason but when I look back, it was a tragic waste of time. I wasn't even aware of it happening until some significant events began to unfold ~ meeting Nathan was one of them. Now, I make a resolve to experience as much as possible and to feel the emotions ~ no matter how painful or joyous. Always, I tell people I want to have no "virgin cells" (Bjork reference again) when I die. The enlightenment that occurred put things into perspective and helped clarify what was really important and what was minutiae. Anyway~~~~ it is over and will NEVER return and hearing so much amazing music is one of the best parts!!!!

What a coincidence -- I attended the same Chicago show many years ago with a good friend of mine! I went to the after party as well! It's the only time I saw Deee-Lite in concert. sad

I love Deee-Lite! Their style and attitude were a major influence on some of the music I am creating now -- they challenged me to go underground and unearth new styles and rhythms, and take chances with my music.

I have Infinity Within and The Very Best of Deee-Lite. I also have Towa Tei's Sound Museum project, an issue of Keyboard magazine from '91 where Towa and Dmitry discuss the making of World Clique (they even made the cover), and a few scattered MP3 files here and there (such as Towa Tei's "Butterfly" and Jonny L's "Accelerate" featuring Lady Miss Kier). Towa was probably my favorite member, which is ironic: I consider the Dewdrops period to be Deee-Lite's best -- and he wasn't around anymore by then.

I will also freely admit to having a bit of a crush on Lady Miss Kier back in the day... wink

TRULY DAH-LING. Deee Lite is fucking FABULOUS! Dewdrops is my favorite album, but i love to play 'what is love' still. They are from our club scene here in NY and back in the day we all used to hang at this club called The Palace de Beaute' which used to be the Underground on 16th st. I had the biggest crush on Miss Kier, and used to dance with her all the time. I used to try to get my friend dj keoki to hook us up but he never would! back then i didn't know she was with dimitri! oops! anyhoo, when they broke through and became a big hit we were so happy for them, because it was our look/scene/vibe that they cashed in on, you know that whole 90s club kid thang. We were so proud!

nod

I always though "Power of Love" was successful enough to not get them in the '1 hit wonder' catagory. shrug

Man I loved seeing them live!!! I wish Elektra would release a dvd with music videos, interviews, performances, etc... pout Maybe we should all start a petition. hmmm
