That performance was awesome!! dancing jig

When they said Alicia was coming out with a superstar .. I thought it might have been Prince ... But this trio was much, much better.

Their energy was palpable.

They were the only thing worth watching on the whole VMA show. And big ups to Dave Chappelle for mentioning Rick James when no one else did. I swear, Mtv is the spoiled ungrateful heiress of television. Rick James helped make a show with 0 ratings at the time a draw and they don't even have the decency to show a little respect.

Right. They should have honored Rick James when they paid tribute to Ray Charles

Well, I enjoyed Lenny and Stevie. Alicia Keys is so overrated, they could've done without her. It's like the media is trying to make her the savior of music today. I kinda liked her when Fallen came out, but after that.....I just didn't see what the big uproar was about.

omfg Was Rick James a presenter at the very first VMA broadcast?
I'm not sure, but I thought he was there for the first one.

Ditto. How they treated my punk funk idol wasn't right. They should have paid tribute to both. I am gald that Dave had enough since to give it up to my boy Rick.

I didn't see the show, but I heard about Stevie with Lenny and Alicia. And I heard about MTV not giving it up to Rick. That's VERY fucked up! Huge oversight. U know ole Dave was going to pay his respects to Rick. But no one should have been surprised about MTV though. Remember, these are the same motherfuckers who refused to play "Billie Jean" at first.

To tell you the truth, I wasn't impressed by anyone this year. I like "If I Ain't Got You," but wasn't feeling that interpretation of "Higher Ground."

If I had to pick, I'd say Andre's "Prototype" live was pretty cool (even though he was singing of key).

And despite playing along to DAT, his guitar playing was kinda off too. Guess he didn't feel like practicing for that performance shrug

Yeah, it was clearly not in tune with the track. He should've just had a live band back him up and Prince playing guitar behind a curtain. falloff

Not necessarily. I don't deny Dre's talent. But since he's trying to branch out as a "musician" it's not gonna do him any good if he doesn't tighten up his performance. I have faith in that brotha. I really do! smile

Sorry have to disagree.

Alicia voice was all scratchy and off on both songs. I get on her for being overrated but never for being off pitch she sounded horrible.

Lenny's band sounded tight.

THe VMA's were a clusterf*ck from the beginining with Usher the most overrated self centered crap on first. Followed by bad camera work, out of focus lenses, sound problems, all assorted stuff MTV usually has in check....

Talentwise it was empty .

I mean even Chaka Khan was off big time. Did they even rehearse anything.
Music is the best...

He BETTER learn how to play if he's going to play Jimi in the movie or a lot of folks are going to be throwing eggs at him. People who truly digs Hendrix could give a fuck about Andre, so he better bring it on the guitar.

Based on the new haircut...

...and the fact that he plays right-handed (a BIG Hendrix issue)

an Ike Turner role might be more appropriate.

Good grief, Bruh! Why did you HAVE to go there!?

Oh, and Andre looks like P. Diddy's manservant in that first pic. (Actually, I think I like his hair cut.)

Ahhh...guess he's picked up the ax in preparation for his Hendrix role.
