R.I.P. Laura Branigan I was just on vh1classic.com and found this out:
From laurabranigan.com "Dear Fans, It was confirmed to OneStor earlier today from Joan Di Tursi Laura's previous manager that Laura had passed away in her sleep last night Thursday August 26th of a Brain aneurysm." I really liked a lot of her 80s hits...Solitaire, Gloria, Self-Control, How am I suppsed to live without you, etc. R.I.P. OMG, I can't believe this!!!! I loved Laura Branigan too, she had some great songs out back in the 80's, as was mentioned in the original post. What the heck is it with all the great artists/entertainers getting taken from us?? RIP, mom. I will forever miss and love you.

Laura's passing made me remember a song by Christopher Cross called "Think of Laura" that came out in 1983:
Artist Name: Christopher Cross Album Name: Another Page Song Name: Think of Laura (Laura, ooo, hey Laura, Laura) Every once in a while I'd see her smile She turned my day around The girl with those eyes They'd stare through the lies And see what your heart was saying Think of Laura But laugh don't cry I know she'd want it that way Hey yeah When you think of Laura Laugh don't cry I know she'd want it that way A friend of a friend A friend til the end That's the kind of girl she was Taken away so young Taken away without a warning Think of Laura But laugh don't cry I know she'd want it that way Hey yeah when you think of Laura Laugh don't cry I know she'd want it that way I know you And you're here And every day we live I know her And, well, she's here I feel her when I sing Hey Laura Where are you now Are you far away from here I don't think so I think you're here Taking our tears away Think of Laura But laugh don't cry I know she'd want it that way Hey yeah when you think of Laura Laugh don't cry I know she'd want it that way Hey yeah Well I know she'd want it that way Hey Laura (Laura) Hey Laura I know she'd want it that way (want it that way) Hey Laura (Laura) Hey Laura I know you want it that way Hey Laura Of course, I didn't know Laura Branigan personally, or even the person that Christopher Cross was thinking about when he wrote this song, but the lyrics were fitting. RIP, mom. I will forever miss and love you.

A bit off topic, but it's a shame Christopher got dogged because he wasn't a "looker". Ride Like The Wind, Sailing, Arthur's Theme and Never Be The Same were nice light-pop tunes. tA Tribal Disorder http://www.soundclick.com...rmusic.htm "Ya see, we're not interested in what you know...but what you are willing to learn. I think he was a better writer than singer, however.

I gotta admit...
I never much cared for her music... nevertheless, it's surprising and I do feel somewhat saddened all the same...

shes in a better place now..free from her pain. its not the end for her merely an everlasting beginning.

I think the fact that he's just an "adequate" singer gives the listener a chance to focus on the "beautiful melody" instead of being overpowered by a better singer who may have done the vocal gymnastics thing to material that really didn't call for it. tA Tribal Disorder http://www.soundclick.com...rmusic.htm "Ya see, we're not interested in what you know...but what you are willing to learn. Completely placid and laid-back, so it let the songwriting take the forefront.

That's a shame.
I saw a VH-1 special on her, and her life was hard, but she kept being optimistic the entire time.

I just today heard about Laura Branigan passing away.
Very sad. I enjoyed her music and she was so representative of the 80s and her death is just very sad for so many reasons.

I also agree. Christopher Cross had some great songs. And Arthur's Theme is one of my favorite songs ever.

I haven't read or heard about it on the news. That's really sad. She'll be missed.

So sad. I love Solitaire, and much prefer her version of How Am I supposed to Live... over Michael Bolton's.
