Spooky Sounding Songs

What makes a scary song? The way the music sounds? The lyrics? The way it's sung? The way it's mixed? All of those things. Is there a song that falls under the category of "Spooky"?
Here is a few of mine:

Blue Jay Way-The Beatles
Hotel California - The Eagles
Stairway To Heaven - Zeppelin
Damn near anything by Robert Johnson.
Sympathy For The Devil - The Rolloing Stones
Station To Station (the intro) Bowie
Darling Nikki - Prince (not just the "hello.. how are you... but the whole song.
Something In The Water - Prince
N.I.B. - Black Sabbath
Eleanor Rigby - The Beatles
2000 Light Years From Home - The Rolling Stones
Onedayimgonnabesomebody - (backward recording at end of song) - The Time
SynthiaRose said "I'm in love with blackguitaristz. Especially when he talks about Hendrix."
nammie "What BGZ says I believe. I have the biggest crush on him."

Before you write this one off...please know that I am NOT a fan of this singer but this song does have a dark/spooky tone to it...

"Everytime" by Britney Spears...

That wind-up toy sound in the song gives it that creepy tone...

but as for really scary.....

PRINCE's "There R Others Here With Us"

That song scares the shit outta me!!!!!

Okay....there...

as a child that song I think it's from George Benson "Gimme the night" something about the chours of ladies singing in the background especially during the breakdown at the end, sounded very haunting to a 5year old....

Phil Collins "In the Air tonight"also another one...

David Bowie - Future Legend

That scared the shit out of me when I first heard it as a kid.

And in the death, as the last few corpses
lay rotting in the slimy thoroughfare,
the shutters lifted an inch in Temperance Building
high on Poacher's Hill. And red
mutant eyes gazed down on Hunger City.
No more big wheels.
Fleas the size of rats sucked
on rats the size of cats.
And ten thousand people-oids split into small tribes,
coveting the highest of the sterile sky-scrappers,
like packs of dogs assaulting the
glass fronts of Love Me Avenue.
Ripping and re-wrapping mink and
shiny silver fox, now leg warmers.
Family badge of sapphire and cracked emerald.
Any day now, the Year of the Diamond Dogs.
This ain't rock 'n' roll,
this is GENOCIDE!

Revolution 9- the Beatles

Flying High In The Friendly Sky - Marvin Gaye

Houdini - Kate Bush

All of Bjork's shit

Strawberry Fields - The Beatles

I Wonder U - Prince and The Revolution

The Goose - Parliament

Prelude - Parliament

Merry Prankster- Rotary Connection

Bedtime Story - Madonna(though this is more for that fucked up video!)

Oh, and the opening horns to Mandrill's "Fencewalk"

The Ending clockbeat on "Time Has Come Today" by the Chambers Brothers

yes! yes!
also "Something About You" by Level 42.
Dude, the clown in that video always spooks me out.
lyrics:
Now,
how can it be
That a love carved out of caring
Fashioned by fate
could suffer so hard
From the games played once too often?
But making mistakes is a part of life's imperfection
Born of the years
Is it so wrong to be human after all?
Drawn into the stream of undefined illusion
Those diamond dreams, they can't disguise the truth

That there is something about you, baby, so right
I wouldn't be without you ,baby, tonight

If ever our love was concealed
No-one can say that we didn't feel
A million things and a perfect dream of life
Gone, fragile but free
We remain tender together
If not so in love
And it's not so wrong;
we're only human after all

These changing years,
they add to your confusion
Oh and you need to hear
the time that told the truth

You know, there's something about you, baby, so right
I wouldn't be without you, baby, tonight
Because there's something about you, baby, so right
I couldn't live without you, baby, tonight

COUNTER MELODY

Something about you, the way you are, so right
I wouldn't be without you here tonight
There's something about you, the way you are so right
I couldn't live without you here tonight

little susie - michael jackson

this song goes from a lil girl humming to soft music to a full friggin orchestra without any warnin and the lyrics r also spooky.

Somebody killed Little Susie
The girl with the tune
Who sings in the daytime at noon
She was there screaming
Beating her voice in her doom
But nobody came to her soon...

A fall down the stairs
Her dress torn
Oh the blood in her hair...
A mystery so sullen in air
She lie there so tenderly
Fashioned so slenderly
Lift her with care,
Oh the blood in her hair...

Everyone came to see
The girl that now is dead,
So blind stare the eyes in her head...
And suddenly a voice from the crowd said
This girl lived in vain
Her face bears such agony, such strain...
But only the man from next door
Knew Little Susie and how he cried,
As he reached down
To close Susie's eyes...
She lie there so tenderly
Fashioned so slenderly
Lift her with care,
Oh the blood in her hair...

It was all for God's sake
For her singing the tune,
For someone to feel her despair.
To be damned to know hoping is dead and you're doomed
Then to scream out
And nobody's there...
She knew no one cared...

Father left home, poor mother died
Leaving Susie alone
Grandfather's soul too had flown...
No one to care
Just to love her
How much can one bear,
Rejecting the needs in her prayers...

Neglection can kill
Like a knife in your soul,
Oh it will
Little Susie fought so hard to live...
She lie there so tenderly
Fashioned so slenderly
Lift her with care,
So young and so fair.

crrreeppy stuff.

that part in positivity by prince that goes

it cuts like a knife it trys 2 get n u this spooky electric sound. give up if u want 2 and all is lost spooky electric will b the boss call people magazine rolling stone call your next of kin cuz ur ass is gona he got a 57 mag wit the price tag still on the side. cuzzin when spooky say dead u better say died or u can fly right by spooky and all that he crawls for spooky and all that he crawls don't kiss the beast.

And for downright scary lyrics, Last Caress always comes to mind. demon

The Misfits
Last Caress

I got something to say
I killed your baby today
And it doesn’t matter much to me
As long as it’s dead

Well I got something to say
I raped your mother today
And it doesn’t matter much to me
As long as she spread

Sweet lovely death
I am waiting for your breath
Come sweet death, one last caress

Go

Sweet lovely death
I am waiting for your breath
Come sweet death, one last caress

Well, I got something to say
I killed your baby today
And it doesn’t matter much to me
As long as it’s dead

Sweet lovely death
I am waiting for your breath
Come sweet death
One last caress

One last caress, sweet death
One last caress, sweet death

Ooh! I thought that was just me. It's very "Hush. Hush, Sweet Charlotte" if you know what I mean.

I also find "Spinning Wheel" a bit menacing - especially Peggy Lee's version. It's almost like she's trying to conjure up the dead. It's all that "Ride a painted pony, let the spinning wheel turn" business.

There are a few Hendrix things, depending on your state of mind, that could be considered "spooky".

Foxey Lady intro
EXP
And the gods made love
1983
Moon Turn The Tides

Vanilla Fudge's intro to You Keep Me Hangin' On
ELP's Knife Edge
Tom Waits - On A Foggy Night
Screamin' Jay Hawkins - most stuff
King Crimson - 21st Century Schizoid Man/In The Court of the Crimson King
(the In The Court Of The Crimson King cover is pretty spooky)
Pink Floyd - Speak To Me/Any Colour You Like/Time (intro)/On The Run
Yes - Close To The Edge/Heart Of The Sunrise
Dr. John - Gris-Gris Gumbo Ya Ya/I Walk On Guilded Splinters
Led Zeppelin - What Is And What Should Never Be

Another one that stands out is Fire from The Crazy World Of Arthur Brown.

I am the god of hell fire...and I bring you...FIRE!
