70s R&B classic of the day: "Rock The Boat" by the Hues Corporation (1974) To all of you "old schoolers" who were around back in 1974,am I lying when I say this was THE HOTTEST R&B SONG of the summer of '74? You couldn't go anywhere without hearing this catchy jam. This is one of those songs that will never age....it sounds just as fresh as it did in '74.I have a ton of 70s compilations, and this song appears on nearly every one...lol...it's one of the most memorable classics from that decade. This song reminds me of being a kid in Detroit, where my father would drive me around town in his cadillac, and inevitably, this song would come on the radio. You couldn't help but sing along...."so I'd like to know where...you got the notion....said I'd like to know where...you got the notion....".
"Rock The Boat" (written by Holmes) So,I'd like to know where you got the notion Said I'd like to know where you got the notion (chorus) To Rock the Boat---don't rock the boat baby Rock The boat---don't tip the boat over Rock The boat---don't rock the boat baby Rock The Boat Ever since our voyage of love began your touch has thrilled me like the rush of the wind And your arms have held me safe from a rollin' sea There's always been a quiet place to harbor you and me Our love is like a ship on the ocean We've been sailing with a cargo full of love and devotion So I'd like to know where you got the notion Said I'd like to know where you got the notion (chorus) To Rock The Boat---don't rock the boat, baby Rock The Boat---don't tip the boat over Rock The Boat---don't rock the boat, baby Rock The Boat Up 'til now we sailed through every storm And I've always had your tender lips to keep me warm Oh,I need to have the strength that flows from you Don't let me drift away,my dear, when love can see me through Our love is like a ship on the ocean We've been sailing with a cargo full of love and devotion So,I'd like to know where you got the notion Said I'd like to know where you got the notion So,I'd like to know where you got the notion Said I'd like to know where you got the notion (chorus) To Rock The Boat---don't rock the boat, baby Rock The Boat---don't tip the boat over Rock The Boat--don't rock the boat, baby Rock the Boat---don't tip the boat over Rock The Boat---ooh...ooh...ooh...ooh Rock The Boat---rock on with your bad self Rock The Boat---rock on with your bad self Rock The Boat---rock on with your bad self

"I Caught Your Act" was a cool song, but "Rock The Boat" was hard to top.In late '74,they followed it up with another single---"Rockin Soul"----do you remember that one?

I think even in Gospel for a while the word "rock" was often used in song titles/recordings. Of course, I'd bet "love" is THE most often used word in song titles ever. I bet you're 100% correct. Another thing you can bet on is that I won't be researching that fact anytime soon. (famous last words?) tA Tribal Disorder http://www.soundclick.com...rmusic.htm "Ya see, we're not interested in what you know...but what you are willing to learn. C'mon y'all."

(famous last words?) tA Tribal Disorder http://www.soundclick.com...rmusic.htm I knew I couldn't leave this @%@$ alone. Famous last words indeed. I was driving over the Newmarket viaduct the other day when a friend commented that the most popular word in song titles was 'Love', closely followed by, not 'you' as you might expect (hope?), but 'I'. Far be it for me to speculate what this tells us about human nature, I'd rather just present you with some more data. I ransacked the freecddb database for this information. The database contains information about 511,912 CDROMs (as of Jan 2002). I counted the words in all of 'em. As you can see below, my friend was right, more or less. There certainly is a disturbing dominance of first-person personal pronouns.
