Extended/12" versions and alike... I miss them

Some nights ago I just came across some CD's I bought with those marvelous remixes so populer back in the day that made you dance all night.
I don't know what you think, but I LOVE those Extended versions aka 12" that artists used to record in the late 80's and early 90's. (Remember Jellybean Benitez??? Sheep Pettibone?????)
chair
Now every mix o remix ends up being a song completely different from the original. eek

The last real extended version I can remember being recorded is Fastlove from George Michael's "OLDER" Album.... (The late 90's???... can you berlieve that??? Maybe that was the last one remixed that way!!! So good

What are your favorites???

Mine...

Madonna: Causin' a commotion/ Burning up
Michael Jackson: Bad/Smooth Criminal
Prince: Thieves in the Temple/ 17 days/ Mountains
Sheila E. The glamorous life/ A love Bizarre
Taylor Dayne: Prove your love/ Tell it to my heart
DeBarge: You wear it well
Yazoo: Situation/ Don't go

Peace

Anxiety

I used to looove my Bauhaus 12" singles (more like EPs, really - there were always a handful of extra songs, and usually the a-side was a complete re-recording of the album version or a new song not available on album) and my Grace Jones 12" singles (mainly just to prop the covers up in my room - her album covers were da best).

OMG..I can remember waaaaay back when I would blow my allowance on 12" singles at the mall. The very first ones I got were Jermaine Jackson 'I Think It's Love' and Janet Jackson 'What Have You Done For Me Latley?'

I too miss the "Extended Version" mixes. I hate full remixes which bear no relation to the original.

I HATE remixes. If they include new B-Sides I can tolerate them but I have no need of five crappy versions of the same song.

I totally agree. I love a good remix but I don't like for it to stray too far away from the original. In more recent years, the remix sounds absolutely nothing like the original. They will do a house version, a hip hop version, a jazzed up version, etc. To me, it is not even the same song because it sounds nothing like the original.

They will even take a slow song and make a remix these days. I don't think slow songs should be remixed because they were not intended for the dance floor in the first place.

98.7 KISS FM (NYC) plays a remix of Kemm's "Love Calls." It's okay for a while, but then the melody gets a bit faster than the already speeded up vocals (or maybe it's vice versa?), so it starts sounding off pace.
