I am LOVING the new album by The Prodigy! Anyone else get a hold of this yet?

Anyweeeez...Girls is great, and the MJ 'cover' is funny, most other songs are OK, just not very memorable imho. The sound was quite a surprise, probably because it was a one-man job this time. A bit too far from what made the Prodigy the Prodigy, IMHO.

Starts strong, (1st 2 trax) then flops like a souffle in an oven.

May as well have been called 'Dirt Chamber Sessions II' - disapointing.

These guys' time has run out IMO. They were on a creative roll for YEARS and no one noticed. I was very disappointed with Crap of the Land...especailly coming after Music for a Jilted Generation, which is still a classic.

And of course when Crap came out they were expecting electronica to take off. Like THIS was the tester or something. AND it didn't and record execs said OH well, looks like this electronica thing is just a fad...let's just drop it all. Now had a better album been pushed or maybe not make any one album the end all be all for electronic music. Right after that album's fizzle...MTV slowly started to dismantle AMP and their whole embracing of this genre.

Of course we all know that electronica did not die...but it didn't get the boost it needed to become the next thing on the radio. I think this is good...but bad. So Many good electronic artist out there still stuggling...meanwhile Crap (the regular kind) exists on the radio.

FAT of the Land was great. It lacked some of the standouts that Jilted did (No Good , Poison, etc), but it was a great high energy album during a period of time when high energy was in.
I'm not a huge Prodigy fan, and really consider them more or less one trick pony's, but when I'm in the mood, I'll jam out to them.

I really like Techno/house/whatever's shift to DJ's like Tiesto and Oakenfold--these guys aren't afraid to be pop, but they're not desperately doing it like DJSammy

I've not heard this yet... Definitely on my list though.

They weren't one trick ponies. They were one of the pioneers of techno and were around since the early 90's. Them along with Praga Khan (Lords of Acid) sorta helped define the genre...at the time.

Now,I gotta buy that I Love Prodigy... Very Cool Group.Have the other album. Saw them Live very Cool.

Not a patch on The Fat Of The Land.

There are a couple of filler tracks - Bells and the one with Gallagher - but i think that overall it's pretty good. I love Spitfire and Hot Ride - who'd have thought it that the Juliet Lewis tracks would be the best on the album?

The old Prodigy wasn't pioneering in any sense of the word. THere is nothing in those albums that didn't sound like something Kraftwerk or any number of the DussellDorf bands (TerraDoma, TempleBeat, etc.) hadn't already done.

But, I will say that I can't stand DJ Tiesto and anything else that sounds like his music. But they sound nothing like The Prodigy IMO, so I don't see the connection there.

Fat of the Land is my favorite by them. I'm not comparing the new one to that album though. I just like it for what it is. It's also probably one of those albums that I'll get sick of really quick though. I remember when I heard the newest Basement Jaxx album, I LOVED it. Then, after a few listens, there are really only a couple of songs on it that I like now. Sometimes it goes that way for me. Instead of growing on me, albums will shrink with time.
