Great thread! I got into house music when I attended college in Chicago's northern suburbs -- I ended up staying in the area for several years after graduation.

A few tracks I don't believe has been mentioned here yet:

Adeva - "Respect"
Tina Moore - "Never Gonna Let You Go" (a little bit later in the game, but I think it counts)

I got heavy into the DJ International artists too (Fast Eddie, Tyree Cooper) -- they have been mentioned in this thread already, but here are a few of Fast Eddie's most memorable tracks:

"Acid Thunder"
"Yo Yo Git Funky"
"Most Wanted"
"Get On Up"

My favorite house track is probably "Break For Love", though I am also partial to Inner City/Kevin Saunderson (I have the Big Fun project on CD).

FYI vainandy -- "The Percolator" was performed by Cajmere (I should know; I heard it almost incessantly during the time I was in Chicago).

ya'll know that "jump ( chico) Slam was actually "Sagat" who did "Fuck dat" lol

Finess, I could never forget this group -- or this album! Positivity changed my life when it was released -- I still believe it is one of the best albums ever! If you're going to count those two tracks, you might as well include "Step Into My Life" as well.

I was still living in the Chi-Town area when this came out -- did "Pieces of a Dream" get any airplay in NYC? Virtually the only track that was played off this album in Chicago was "Deep Waters" (which V103 played almost constantly -- good thing I love the song).

Break For Love by Raze has one of the best beats, I love that song equally as much as Good Life by Inner City. I can't believe someone else in the universe knows who Tina Moore is. I have all three of her CD's and she is a great artist. Tina's debut is the best in my opinion (Never Gonna Let You Go) is on there. I never considered it house music...maybe you're speaking of the Artful Dodger remix, that version is more on the house side. The version on her album is a mid tempo R&B track.

Yeah -- I was speaking of the "Never Gonna Let You Go" remix, which was kind of popular for a while. I liked the album version a lot; I bought the cassette single when it came out. Since it was produced by local Chicago club/house producers, I got to hear that song a lot. Unfortunately, I never heard anything else from her. I didn't even know she had done more than one album.

Cool stuff man! I'm familiar with the album version of the track, but I haven't had the chance to hear this remix. I'm a big fan of Incognito as well.

Has anyone mentioned "A Day In The Life" by Todd Terry?

The "Best Of House Music" 5CD boxset on Profile records is well worth getting if you can find it (long out of print). Almost every song on the first three discs is mentioned here!

I saw Ultra Nate in columbus several years back at Pride. She showed up on stage like 4 hours late, then was charging like another 50 bucks a head for a meet and greet. The crowd was less than thrilled when she finally took the stage. She tried to strike up some conversation with the crowd before she performed and noone was replying. Then she exclaimed "ya'll are LATE!". If you've never seen a mob of drunk angry homo's go off on someone... Her set was decent though.

I'm suprised noone mentioned Joey Beltram's mix of "Dominator"

Actyally to be honest, the mid to late 90's were a great time for House IMO. Club 69's first two albums were incredible. Remember the series of Blondie remix maxi-singles that came out along with Remixed/Remade/Remodeled? How about Insomnia, Fired Up, Donna Summers version of I Will Go With You, Body, Spin Spin Sugar, Deborah Cox, Whitney Houston remixes, If Madonna Calls, Drama, and that great cover of Kiss You All Over, sigh... I know, they were overplayed, but some cool shit.

BTW, the very first time I heard Ray Of Light play at The Grid it blew me away, everyone went nuts. Suzanne Palmer, who performed on alot of Club69 tracks, sang at the Interbelt back in like 98. She was incredible. Looked hot as ever and her voice was booming and amazing, but the crowd was all disgruntled cuz they wanted to hear Drama...

Wait, as in "on the table, call me mabel... Love to do it"??? Damn! this is taking me back. See, I always went out dancing but I wasn't much of a music collector. So I remember all these songs but wouldn't have the slightest idea who created them or where to find them these days. See, that's why there should just be a late 80's/early 90's house retro night somewhere.

Funny you should say that. As I was logging on, I was also reading an article I saved from the NY Times a couple of weeks ago. It's about how Coney Island's boardwalk turns into an "old school dance party" every Saturday evening in the summer. The D.J. doesn't like hip-hop so he only spins house and old school funk and disco.

Sounds like my kind of party! dancing jig
