Any fans out there?

He is a true artist. Not the best singer ever, but a complete musician. And he constructs albums as a whole, rather than put collections of songs together. They sound nothing like anyone else, and they don't sound much like each other.

I just bought his new album 1+1 is 1 (I have heard him accused of ripping off Radiohead's 2+2=5, but Prince fans know who he ripped off, right?). I am undecided about this record so far. It's a real downer. I have loved the progression of all of his albums. Each is more exciting than the last. This album seems like a step back. But I don't think that's necessarily bad, just not what i expected.

I haven't picked up his latest album.

Have You Fed the Fish is my favorite, too. I know a some people might have thought of it as something of a sell out compared to Hour of the Bewilderbeast, but I like the big sound. I think that big production is one of the good things mainstream music has to offer compared to indie music. And yet the songs on Have You Fed the Fish are certainly nothing like what we hear on the radio (at least in the US).

He's from my hometown, Bolton! Yay!

He's also friends with the Doves - my favourite band in the world.

But he is one scruffy motherfucker.
