I'll personally nominate EL's song " Who's Johhny " as the WORST SONG EVER BY ANYBODY!!!!

But to be fair, even though many may consider him a lightwieght prince, the brotha CAN SANG. Give a listen to an album named A Twist of Jobim, where many jazz artisit sing the songs of Antonio Carlos Jobim. It came out in 1997, and his cover of DINDI is truly awsome. Add to that his work with the first Fourplay album, and you can see this man's range and talent. In the end, while I don't have any DeBarge album in particuar, I enjoy the groups music.

Loved Switch...."I call your name"

Debarge "Time will reveal"
"Love me in a special way" song gets me all turry eyed
"I like it"
"All this love"

Chico Debarge.....He is just one SEXXXY mofo.

2 questions to anyone that might know.....

which member of Switch was it that passed away?
and not that it matter's but just out of curiosity what was they're ethnicity?

Someone mentioned that Bobby died of AIDS.

I had always heard that their dad is/was white and their mom is/was black.

I like the first few albums by DeBarge, when they were ptting out smooth R&B jams like...

"All This Love" (1982)---their best song!
"Time Will Reveal" (1983)
"Love Me In A Special Way" (1983)
"Stay With Me" (1983)
"A Dream" (1983)

But they lost me when they released the 'Rhythm Of The Night' album in 1985.I was really disappointed with that one.The title track is mid-80s commericial pop crap, and the ballads on this album are too "pop-ish" and formulaic ("Who's Holding Donna Now","Single Heart").On previous albums,El and the other members were writing and producing most of the songs themselves, but on THIS project,a bunch of outside songwriters were brought in,resulting in a soul-less,by-the-numbers pop album, clearly designed to crossover onto the pop charts.

I have the album cover for the Debarge album with the mother etc...I'll post it in a few.

This gospel album came out a few years back and included the following members:

Etterlene DeBarge (The Debarge's mother)

Bunny (original Debarge member)

Tommy (original member of Switch)

Darryl (younger sibling - also appears in Fourplay's video After The Dance with El...he also appears with El from time to time singing back up - you can't miss him)

Randy (original Debarge member)

Mark (original Debarge member)

Peaches (Carol) - younger sibling

El guest appeared on the first song "We Need Your Love" (he is not on the album cover). Last but not least, this is not Debarge re-incarnated (i.e. this is not a new lineup of Debarge). It was just a totally different project (gospel) that included their mom etc.
Ohhh you keep saying stay the niiiiiiiiight
Just let me rock you 'til the morning liiiiiiight
It's cold outside
And much too late to driiiiiiiive
You know I need you baby
I'm so lost without your love

LOVED, LOVED, LOVED Debarge. They were one of my favorite groups back in the 80's. The album "In A Special Way" is a classic IMO.
I am convinced Beyonce's career would not be where it is, if she had dark skin.

Chico was the HOTNESS.

Loved him.

By the way, does anyone remember The Facts of Life Episode where El sang "You Wear it Well," and Tootie and them sang backup?

Not only is Eldra DeBarge a fantastic singer(he can hit notes MJ & Prince could only dream of hitting), but El is fabulous producer, songwriter! All or most of the DeBarges can play keys & drums, El can actually play keys, drums, bass, & other instruments. His older brother(Tommy DeBarge) is a fantastic bassist who used to be in Switch with Bobby DeBearge. They have a younger brother named Darell DeBarge who is very talented, he actually help write many songs on what I think is El's best solo album(Gemini)

I know I'm in the minority, but I was never a big DeBarge fan. Don't know why. I did like "You Wear It Well." And Chico's "Talk to Me" but other than that, they didn't do it for me. confused

I like Switch even though they sounded kinda rough and unpolished on songs like "I Call Your Name".

My favorite Debarge songs include the usual suspects:
Time Will Reveal
Stay With Me
All This Love
I Like It
A Dream
Who's Holding Donna Now
... and some apparently not so usual ones such as:
Single Heart
You Wear it Well
Queen of My Heart

I also dug El's solo album Heart,Mind, & Soul.

I loved me some DeBarge when I was little. I thought his sisters were gorgeous. I have had 2 DeBarge albums stolen out of my cars so there must be more closet fans out there somewhere.

For the longest time I thought the song "I Call Your Name" was sung by Debarge (since they sound alike). It wasn't until I did some research on the internet that I found out that Switch sang the song, not Debarge. lol

Yeah, I like DeBarge too, they were great, although I have to agree with the others who posted the song "Who's Johnny" was their worst single. The video was even worse. omg

I have In the Storm and he and Maurice White made a fine album-- channeling MArvin Gaye. I listened to it all the time when it came out in '92. I was 16.

This one had the Prince written tune, "Tip O' My Tounge" on it.
And this is the first time I fell in love with Chante' Moore's voice on " You Know What I Like."

The only El DeBarge song I like is "Real Love". I hate "Who's Johnny"....once again, too "poppish".

you might like "In the Storm" if you don't know it yet, not poppish at all. El finally gave a shit about crossing over and did a real soul album, his shot at Mavin Gaye's "I Want you"

Hey, I didn't know that! So the 5 siblings were El, James, Bobby, Bunny and...?

I'm having "All This Love" played as my wedding song. Laugh and I'll torch this place.

Bobby and Tommy Debarge were in the group "Switch", not Debarge

Bobby *was* in DeBarge for one album after El and Bunny left. DeBarge was alright, but Switch put out some of my all-time favorites slow jams. Weak albums but some great songs. I could listen to "I Call Your Name", "Love Over And Over Again", and "This Is My Dream" all day...

I LOVE DEBARGE!

El DeBarge is my favorite singer.

My favorite DeBarge songs:

I Like It
Stay With Me
All This Love
Rythm Of The Night
Queen Of My Heart
Time Will Reveal
Who's Holding Donna Now?
Be My Lady
A Dream
Love Me In A Special Way
The Heart Is Not So Smart

I don't have any of El's solo albums but I love the song "Love Always".

I haven't had a chance to hear Chico's music either but I'll get around to it. Very, very talented family. God bless them even more.
