The LL Cool J sample I can't place.
With New Orleans as a clue, i'd guess it'd be a Meters sample.

Damn you're good!!! Yeah, the Owlins hint gave that away real quick.

Re: "Jack The Ripper" by LL Cool J.
It's not from The Meters.

Actually all the music (horns, flute, guitar loop) was sampled from "Ashley's Roachclip" by the Soul Searchers, which most people just use the drums from (ie. "Paid In Full" Eric B & Rakim).

That came from "West Coast Poplock" by Ronnie Hudson and The Street People which was released in 1982. The song was also written by Roger Troutman and Larry Troutman.

Sampling gets even more complicated. Milli Vanilli sampled Eric B. and Rakim on one of their songs. The Eric B. and Rakim song was a sample of Dennis Edwards' "Don't Look Any Further".

Some of the artists are using a sample from one artist that was already a sample from another artist. In other words, Milli Vanilli's was a sample of a sample. Over the years, some of them have become a sample of a sample of a sample with a completely different sample mixed in. I'll hand it to them, they are great DJs if nothing else.

Re: "Paid In Full" by Eric B. & Rakim.
The drums Milli Vanilli used from this is not from Dennis Edwards (only the bassline was replayed).

Actually the drums were sampled from "Ashley's Roachclip" by the Soul Searchers, which ..

hey I'm getting deja vu lol

WE HAVE A WINNER!!!

As paligap said, the sample used is part of a David Axelrod written tuned called The Edge from the album "Music: A Bit More of Me" by David McCallum.

What makes this so odd is that David McCallum is primarily known as an actor who played the role of Illya Kuryakin in the popular 60s series The Man From U.N.C.L.E.

(he also played Ashley-Pitt in the movie "The Great Escape")

Come to find out that his father was first violinist for the London Philharmonic and his mother was a cellist.

McCallum's father is also the person who told Jimmy Page to try the violin bow for his electric guitar.

Get outta here!!! omg I did not know that. biggrin

lol No you keep singing "Cinderfella Dana Dane" which samples "Brick" by Dazz.

The (separate) title track off his 1987 album Dana Dane With Fame samples "Impeach The President" by the Honeydrippers.

Portishead, hmmm... let me try. Sample 1: " More Mission Impossible " by Lalo Schifrin

Sample 2: " Spin it jig " by Smokey Brooks. I must admit it helps to have that album and read the credits, otherwise I would have been clueless, especially on the Smokey Brooks sample which I've never heard of outside of this song.

OK, here's a little left turn for ya. Sarah McCachlan, yes the folksy chantuse has a remix album of her songs featuring many well known DJ's. What song is partially sampled for her song Sweet Surrender? It took me some time to figure this one out, but it's quite obvious now.

HEY FOLKS PEASE IGNORE THIS QUESTION, I Humbly admit I have the wrong song and idea, Please ignore, sad

Well he's partially correct.
The exact answer would be, artist - Lalo Schifrin, song title - The Danube Incident.
=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=

Lalo Schifrin is a true Renaissance man. As a pianist, composer and conductor, he is equally at home conducting a symphony orchestra, performing at an international jazz festival, scoring a film or television show, or creating works for the Los Angeles Chamber Orchestra or the London Philharmonic and even The Sultan of Oman.

As a young man in his native Argentina, Lalo Schifrin received classical training in music, and also studied law. He came from a musical family, and his father, Luis Schifrin, was the concertmaster of the Philharmonic Orchestra of Buenos Aires at the Teatro Colon.

Lalo Schifrin continued his formal music education at the Paris Conservatory during the early 1950's. Simultaneously, he became a professional jazz pianist, composer and arranger, playing and recording in Europe.

When Schifrin returned to Buenos Aires in the mid 1950's, he formed his own big concert band. It was during a performance of this band that Dizzy Gillespie heard Schifrin play and asked him to become his pianist and arranger. In 1958, Schifrin moved to the United States and thus began a remarkable career.

His music is a synthesis of traditional and twentieth-century techniques, and his early love for jazz and rhythm are strong attributes of his style. "Invocations," "Concerto for Double Bass," "Piano Concertos No. 1 and No. " "Pulsations," "Tropicos," "La Nouvelle Orleans," and "Resonances" are examples of this tendency to juxtapose universal thoughts with a kind of elaborated primitivism.

He has written more than 100 scores for films and television. Among them "Mission Impossible," "Mannix," "The Fox," "Cool Hand Luke," "Bullitt," "Dirty Harry," "Tango,""Rush Hour,"" Rush Hour 2, and "Bringing Down The House," which have become very popular. In 2003, Schifrin's complete score for "The Hellstrom Chronicle" was released in CD format for the first time in limited-edition. He most recently scored the indpendent drama "The Bridge of San Luis Rey" in 2004 starring Robert DeNiro and Kathy Bates. To date, Lalo Schifrin has won four Grammy Awards (with twenty-one nominations), one Cable ACE Award, and received six Oscar nominations.

It's quite something to learn about that sample from David McCallum or David Axelrod that Dr. Dre used. It so so good that I would have never known unless I researched it> This is an example of when a sample truly works, the more obscure the better.
